2 Purpose.
This document defines the method statement (MOS) requirements for H.E.B Beams installation at
GIS HALL of LEKELA Substation 220/33 kV project.

3 Terms & Definitions.


Definition Description of Definition

4 Scope of Work.
This job Comprised of:
Installation of six H.E.B Beam for GIS HALL’s overhead crane, at elevation of (6.90m) from grade
level, by moving beams form storage area to desired place, erection of scaffolding, setting of
rigging assembly, lifting of HEB beam, welding of HEB beam in place.

5 Resources.
5.1 Personnel.
Attached organization chart (APPENDIX A).
5.2 Equipment.
 Welding Machine.
 Forklift.
 Manual forklift.
 Hand operated Chain Block Grade 8 – Capacity 5 ton.
 Lifting accessories.
 Hand tools.
 Scaffolding.

5.4 Health, Safety and Environment measurements.
5.4.1 Personal Protective Equipment.
 Minimum site requirements (Safety Glasses, Safety Footwear, Helmet, High
Visibility Vest).
 Any additional PPE refer to task risk assessment.
 Full body harness shall be used while working at heights.
5.4.2 Housekeeping.
 Materials should be arranged into groups at appropriate place to gain safe and clean
work place.
5.4.3 Equipment Control.
 All equipment to be in good condition and inspected, mobile equipment must be
escorted by flagman.
 Equipment must operate warning lights at all times.
5.4.4 Fire Control.
 Portable DCP fire Extinguisher firefighting equipment with required number will be available.

5.4.5 Working at heights.


 Warning Signs and caution tapes to be placed around area.
 Scaffolding must be erected, dismantled and inspected by a competent person.
 Scaffolding must be erected using approved non defected materials.
 Scaffolding must be inspected on a daily basis, scaffold must have a valid inspection
tag, according to site regulation.

6 Definitions of Processes.
6.1 Transportation of H.E.B Beam to GIS HALL.
By using forklift, H beam shall be moved from storage area to GIS HALL.

H.E.B Beams must be stored over wood timbers so that it cannot be accidently
dislodged.
H.E.B Beams must be tightly fasted to forklift while been moved to prevent accidental
dislodging.
6.2 Transportation of H beam inside GIS HALL.
By using of manual trolly beams shall be moved individually to the lifting points.
6.3 Erection of Scaffolding platform
Erection of independent scaffold for reaching to lifting points in GIS roof slab frame
beam.
Taking in account of lifting areas.
All working at height tools must be tied off by a suitable tool lanyard
Scaffolding must be erected according to OHSA 29, CFR 1926.450 – 455
Scaffolding competent person must all time maintain proper platform while erection.
6.4 Installing of rigging and chain block
All lifting equipment and accessories must be inspected visually by a competent person.
Using a two inches preprepared embedded sleeve at roof slab frame beams to install a
webbing sling of suitable SWL.
A protection layer must be inserted between the concrete surface and webbing sling.
By using a bow shackle to connect chain block with the webbing sling.
Using double shocker hitch using a webbing sling of a suitable SWL and a bow shackle
to rig the beams at the ends of the beams to be lifted by the chain block.
6.5 Lifting and rigging of H.E.B to frames elevation
Lifting area must be enclosed and have personnel access control
Lifting operation must be synchronized and the beam must be leveled at all time.
Lifting operation must be monitored by lifting supervisor.
6.6 Removing of the rigging accessories
Lifting supervisor must ensure that beam is rested at desired location of the beam
bracket.
Lifting accessories shall be removed and inspected after use if any defect.
Defected accessories must be removed immediately and tagged out of service.
6.7 Welding of the H.E.B to GIS beams brackets at (6.9 M) above grade level.
Welding supervisor must inspect visually all connection and welding machine.
Welding rods must be heated using approved heating device.
Welding supervisor must ensure that all combustible materials are removed from the
area.
Welding supervisor must ensure to use correct PPE
All Electrical cable must be raised over insulated hooks.
6.8 Dismantling of scaffolding
Scaffolding must be dismantled according to OHSA 29, CFR 1926.450 – 455
Scaffolding competent person must all time maintain proper platform while dismantling
Area must be barricaded with access restriction control
