CREATING ENGAGING AND MOTIVATING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS 2
The need to be creative in the classroom has been the prominent feature throughout the
survey, which will only be truly effective after knowing what I need to create for my students.
From the responses I have received from my survey, my students would benefit from being
checked up on to help keep up their learning and support systems while navigating the unfamiliar
learning environment. There is a common highlight between the genre of fiction and video
games, which I can use to facilitate learning in the in-person and online learning environments to
boost student motivation. The quote from Taking Action on Adolescent Literacy, “ In classrooms
that promote motivation, teachers continually make connections between texts and the life
experiences of students, films, other texts, previous school experiences, and the topic at hand,”
(Irvin, J., Meltzer, J., & Dukes, M., 2007). By using what students love to facilitate learning,
students can enjoy learning and activate the required deep learning. “The result of deeper
learning is students leave school with how, when, and why to apply skills and knowledge to face
challenges of college, career, and life” (Wickline, 2015). This will take a lot of time and
creativity which I had not thought of before, and surveys like this will help me understand from
where my students are starting so that I can help them grow from there.
