UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM 2

Introduction

The United Nations Environmental program is a body in the UN charged with the sole

responsibility of helping developing nations create policies that will help developing countries

deal with environmental issues. It is a global champion for environmental programs.

The preferred organization for this assignment is the United Nations Environment Program.

Provide leadership in environmental Preservation through different partnerships. Their goal is to

provide information and create an enabling environment for People and nations to raise living

standards without generations to come (UNEP,2020).

 Values, Ethics, and Code of conducts For United Nations

The central values that hold the organization together are integrity, Professionalism, and

respect for diversity. There are set fundamental guidelines followed by everyone within the

organization in a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment. These fundamentals Acta as the

codes of conduct in the organization. Upholding these values is a must for every one person that

works within the organization.

Every staff member from all ranks and every level; service contractors, consultants,

volunteers, and interns are supposed to comply with the conduct codes. The specific policies and

regulations that only apply to staff members, other limited groups, and contractors will be

highlighted (United Nations, 2020.Ethics office). The ethical standards are identified by the

code of ethics, followed by all the staff members.

To substantiate the code of Ethics, which is based on UNDP's values, there are crucial

documents that everyone can read and embrace. These essential documents include;

1. The United Nations Charter, which sets Integrity, Competency and efficiency as

standards that are needed for employment.

2. The staff signs a Declaration Document, with an oath to act impartially and

independently and align their interests with those of the United Nations Only. These

Document also states that they cannot receive instructions from any external body or

Government.

3. The General Assembly adopted the Conduct for International Civil Service standards to

be applied by all staff in the United Nations system organizations. Means of code of

conduct sets up the calling for internal civil servants. Their service should respect the

fundamental rights, ideals of peace, and international cooperation.

4. The Corporate Accountability Framework is a UNDP document that establishes

accountability programs to; donors and project beneficiaries. It is an organizational

system of accountability for transparency, alignment of all administrative activities, and

Clarity. The framework's primary goal is for the implementation of decision-making

processes, defining roles, and accountabilities.

5. The non-staff service and individual contractors are bound to the Regulations Governing

the Status, Duties, and Basic Rights of officials. Experts on mission and Secretariat

officials are excluded. It them to exercise loyalty indiscretion, and be fully aware of the

functions entrusted to them to regulate behavioral interests and discharge these functions

assigned to them by the United Nations.

 United Nations Latest Activities Explained.

international Association (Through Yemen Emergency Electricity Access project) to install solar

energy in critical public facilities and schools to provide access to affordable and reliable clean

water, lighting, and social amenities. These services are taken to communities affected by the

humanitarian crisis (World Bank, 2020).

The use of Solar Energy has many impacts on the environment since the communities cut trees

and bushes for cooking and lighting. The use of solar energy prevents air pollution. The smoke

from trees and burning bushes cause health and environmental hazards (World Bank, 2020. The

use of solar energy improves human health.

Education plays an active role in dealing with climate change, and the United Nations

programs seek to equip schools with the knowledge needed to fight the environmental crisis and

deal with its impacts (United Nations, n.d).

Natukunda Edetruda Is a student at Immaculate Heart school in Uganda. She feels that is very

critical for the youth to get involved in Climate change. She says, "Our future lies in the hands of

this young generation. They can either destroy the future or protect it. Change Will begin with

every individual; I think as a young person, I need to be armed with every tool that is needed to

protect the environment."

 Individual Reflections

I have developed a positive approach towards the activities that the United Nations are

involved in. My visit to the United Nations Environmental Program is an eye-opener for me. I

have read some of their latest activities and news on how they are trying to develop regulations

and rules to achieve a sustainable environment. They are focusing on management and educating

people on why it is necessary to protect the environment. This knowledge is fundamental to

prevent people from destroying the environment.

Climate change has an immediate effect on life. Some factors will affect our health and our

way of life. This makes me more concerned with the issues that are surrounding Climate change.

Air pollution is one of the factors that have a considerable effect on our health. The

industrialization has led to harmful gases being released into the atmosphere causing air

pollution. Similarly, vehicles are also causing air pollution through their exhaust pipes. Air

pollution can lead to several human diseases.

 Provoking Questions

1. What is the impact of using public transport? Does it reduce the rate of carbon

emissions?

2. What are the factors acting as a hindrance to achieving a sustainable environment?

In Conclusion, the United Nations Environmental program was the best organization for

completing this assignment. Through partnerships with other organizations, they have values and

a code of ethics strictly followed by every person who works within the organization. The

principle of Ethics is required from everyone irrespective of rank or level. Some documents are

supposed to read by the staff to substantiate the code of ethics. Through the policies, the United

Nations can promote environmental awareness in schools and the public environment. The work

that UNDP does is has already been defined. From the reflections, it is worth noting that climate

change is an issue to which I developed a positive approach. It is because it has an immediate

effect on our health and the environment.
