Quest Application: The Undying Gap

(WIP name)
By: dissintegration/dissintegrate/dissintegrated/whatever the hell I go by now
(Due to the nature of the rewards, this quest is intended as a late-game side quest after the
Player Character has completed a notorious amount of side and main quests)

This quest is started after a dialogue sequence with Audur the Scavenger who lies inside an
inn in Fruthuul
1. Hey! You look just like the right person
1.1 Who are you?
1.1.1 Oh…Please excuse my manners, my name is Audur but everyone calls me
“The Scavenger” I happen to be interested in your services
1.1.2 Why a Scavenger?
1.1.3 Well that’s thanks to my work’s nature, I spend most of my time exploring
ruins and collecting ancient artifacts to study them and learn about its history, I am
an adventurer and a researcher. Some natives believe my work is dishonorable and
I’m leeching off the corpses of ancient Roscreans, I think they just don’t understand
I’m trying to preserve our history
1.2 What makes you think I am the right person?
(PLAYER CHARACTER IS A NON-NORD) 1.2.1 Playful Heh…I’ve been
following your presence for a while and you have developed a nice reputation
among the locals quite quickly, you might be the most influential foreigner to ever
set foot on the Island since Emperor Uriel *giggles*
(PLAYER CHARACTER IS A NORD) 1.2.1 Playful and confused What?
Everyone talks about you! You’re the Roscreans’ favorite conversation piece…
Everyone is aware of “The stranger from the South who looks just like one of us”
…So mysterious, you even remind me of “him” *giggles*
1.2.2 Who’s “him”?
1.2.2.1 Well-pleased Sólvarr The Undying…We should be meeting him soon
enough
1.3 What do you want from me?
1.3.1 Like I said, most people think of you as a strong and even fearsome individual
so I thought you could help explore a very dangerous ruin not too far from here.
Your work will be greatly compensated…Of course
1.4 What sort of ruin?
1.4.1 I’m glad you asked, the ruins’ name is “Svartunngap”, they were apparently
used by the Bear Cult as a sacred mausoleum to bury their dead during the Totem
Wars at least until the Empire arrived
1.4.2 It was during that time that the Mausoleum was infiltrated and taken over by
Snake cult dissidents who refused to submit to the Bear Chieftain’s will, they
murdered all their priests turned them into undead servants…Either as a mockery or
trying to raise an undead army to use against their rival cult
1.4.3 Locals and priests alike complained about this obscene desecration as well as
bizarre apparitions and sounds, but all the attention was siphoned by the strange
disappearances and murders near to the ruins. Imperial authorities decided to take
matters into their own hands
1.4.3.1 When can we go?
1.4.3.2 Wait an instant, what I’m saying is very important and you should pay
attention
1.4.3.1 Go on
1.4.5 The Legates decided that this was a serious threat to the conquest’s stability if
it wasn’t handled correctly so they sent their best man alongside a small-sized army
of experienced soldiers and young conscripts. This man was Legate Sólvarr…
Nicknamed the Undying by the local resistance who were astonished at his more
than remarkable combat prowess and resistance to the harsh weather, almost as if
they believed he was impossible to kill
1.4.6 Strangely…Days went by and not a single soldier ever returned, the
disappearances and deaths suddenly stopped but strange activity like whispers and
sightings continued. Authorities decided that whatever happened on the
Mausoleum...It was for the better if the matter was buried and forgotten, they
destroyed and sealed all the entrances and the locals forgot about it
1.4.7 The reason I want you to help me explore these ruins is because you’re the
only person who seems able to traverse the Mausoleum, if Imperial soldiers and
Sólvarr himself weren’t able to survive then I can’t trust my safety on naïve local
warriors and mead-drinking elders.
1.4.8 Besides a payment for your protection you can uncover dozens of ancient
Roscrean artifacts as well as Sólvarr’s armory and weapons that cut through so
many of our warriors but if you want any of it we both need each other’s help…
Please
1.5 Very well, I will be your guardian and help you uncover the Mausoleum
1.5.1 Really? Thank you so much! I promise you will not regret it
1.5.2 Now, it’s time to get going. I will mark the location on your map
1.5 Whatever…As long as I get paid I couldn’t care less about the details
1.5.1 Sarcastic and mildly annoyed I’m glad to see how eager you are to help me!
It’s time to get going
1.5.2 The place’s right here on the map

The Quest The Undying Gap starts and the objective Locate the Mausoleum
ruins is granted
Audur the Scavenger is attempting to explore an ancient Mausoleum and wants my
assistance under the promise of riches and secrets, I should locate these ruins
The player arrives at the marked location completing the task. A new objective Find
an access to the Mausoleum is granted
I have finally found the forgotten ruins Audur told me about, like in her story all the
possible access points seem sealed. I must find an entrance or carve my way
through one
The main entrance is completely sealed by rocks and similar assets but there’s a
large hole on the left side of the ruins covered with rusted and damaged planks,
these planks can be cut down or hit by a fire type spell to make an entrance, the
former task is completed
Player enters the Mausoleum and a new conversation with Audur triggers
2.1 We’re here now and it’s time to scavenge. Look for the innermost chamber, it
should be on the lower levels
2.1.1 Don’t get too far and stay alert and you will be fine
A new task Locate the inner chambers is obtained
We have gained access to the Mausoleum at last, I shall now protect Audur from
lurking dangers and clear a path to the inner chambers. What awaits us?
2.1.2 Are you sure we can come out alive?
2.1.3 Clearly angry and worried What? Why are you asking me that? I should be the
one asking you…No I shouldn’t even have to ask. The reason why you’re here it’s
because I cannot protect myself, you have to protect me
2.1.4 Annoyed and sighing Let’s just get through this, the less blood I lose the more
gold I will pay you
Same as 2.1.1 (A new objective appears)
The player now proceeds through the ruins, the dungeon resembles the Ancient
Nord ruins from Skyrim filled with Embalmed draugr and more burial clutter, the
enemies are Roscrean draugar and hostile ghosts/wraiths of Bear cult priests and
warriors
On the second floor there’s a small cave connected to the ruins, this floor has bear
cult ghosts but two high level Gehenoths can also be found (Hopefully unique
variants, standard ones are fine too)
The player reaches the third floor granting a new objective Enter the Inner
Chambers
We have made our way through the monsters and found the access to the Inner
Chambers, fine and rare armory lie inside waiting for me. We shall enter the
Chambers and claim our riches
This floor is concentrated with high level variants of previous enemies (Likely
named “Roscrean Draugr Warlord” “Roscrean Draugr Berserker” “Roscrean Draugr
Housecarl” and “Bear Cult Spectre” “Bear Cult Weeper” “Bear Cult Poltergeist”.
decomposing corpses of snake cultists can be found showing how close the inner
chamber is
Once the player enters the chambers a new objective appears Wait for Audur’s
research
The adventure is slowly reaching its end…We have entered the embalming
chambers at last, I shall collect my riches and give Audur some time for her search
The player can see the following: The inner chambers are the very large embalming
room of the Mausoleum, filled with dead embalmed draugr on embalming tables,
decomposed corpses of the dissident Snake cultists as well as the Imperial army also
decomposed, there’s also a small smelter upstairs where the embalming resources
are kept
On the center of the room there’s a standing embalming table with a unique-looking
Imperial corpse, this corpse belongs to Sólvarr the Undying, apparently tortured and
has his heart torn out and replaced with a greenish round object the size of a human
heart
Once Audur reaches Sólvarr’s embalming table she turns to the player and hits them
with a paralyze spell, the player is then locked into a “cutscene” where they cannot
move (Similar to Karliah paralyzing the player and the Elder Scroll (Dragon)
flashback) a new objective is granted Break free
I have been betrayed…Audur has rendered me devoid of any movement, I am
uncertain of what will happen now but I am sure of what I must do. I must break
free from her spell
3.1 Arrogant and self-satisfied How may I thank you for your service my dear
friend?
3.2 Mocking You were so protective and caring…The helpless and curious young
girl didn’t even have to unsheathe her blade
3.3 Sarcastic and passionate See? I honored my promise, here’s more coin and
weapons than you could ever dream of!
3.4 Mockingly Though I don’t think it is of much use now hahahaha
3.5 Impressed and relieved Finally…After all these years…I did it, the relic of my
people: The Serpent’s core, it is finally mine.
3.6 Same as 3.4 At last I will fulfill my forebears’ will and strike the Bears dead
once and for all
3.7 And it was all thanks to you!
3.8 Hmmm it seems a little unfair, you definitely deserve a reward after so much
hard work
3.9 How about you become the first one to taste the strength of my mighty snake’s
army?
Audur turns to Sólvarr and hits him with a snake cult dagger, he is then reanimated
and unsheathes his Fatherland battleaxe but remains friendly
The small imperial army is also reanimated and lay in front of Audur and Sólvarr, to
the left of the player. They remain friendly
4.0 Bossy and demanding Listen to me my beloved walking corpses
4.1 I am your mistress now, I command you and you obey me
4.2 Shouting Bring me the intruder’s head…NOW
Sólvarr attacks Audur locking her into a decapitation killmove, Audur dies
(obviously) and then attempts addressing the player

5.1 Almost unintelligible babbling, grunting Kaaeehl mooeee (Kill me)

The player breaks from the cutscene and can freely move again
The last objective is automatically completed and a new one is given Slay Sólvarr
the Undying
Audur asked her thralls for the intruder’s head and got an answer, now I must
defeat the fabled Legate Sólvarr the Undying and his army of undead legionaries
and survive. The serpent’s core has got to do something with it
Sólvarr and the undead soldiers turn hostile against the player, they must be
defeated. The undead soldiers can be killed and will remain dead however each time
Sólvarr is killed he rises again with full health and stamina; the more times he dies
the more aggressive he gets
When Sólvarr dies and rises back to life for the second time he speaks the following
line
6. Kuuueeeehrseeed (Cursed)
The only way the player can permanently defeat Sólvarr is by taking the Serpent’s
core from his inventory, either by pickpocketing him or getting close enough to pick
it from his chest (Similar to a Forsworn’s briar heart)
Once the player obtains the serpent’s core he must take it to the smelter upstairs and
melt it, once the serpent’s core is destroyed Sólvarr loses his resurrection effect and
can finally be killed
Once Sólvarr dies for the last time a ghostly human version of him and his
legionaries appear and Sólvarr’s ghost engages in a brief dialogue
7.1 Slow and relieved You freed me and my men from the serpent’s curse
7.2 Our souls can finally get some rest and meet again with our loved ones
7.3 I hope to meet you again at Sovngarde one day my fellow warrior
7.4 But until then I can only reward your charity with me and my men’s
belongings…Please accept them as yours
8. Farewell, we shall never forget you
The ghosts fade away and the Slay Sólvarr the Undying objective is completed
A new objective is received Find an exit
I have freed the legionaries’ souls’ seemingly damned to spend an eternity as
undead thralls for the snake cultists, I have been rewarded with their armory.
Perhaps I should take them and finally leave the Mausoleum
A wall from Upstairs crumbles revealing rusted planks of the same type as the ones
in the entrance, again these can be torn down by a melee weapon or a spell’s impact,
revealing an exit back to Roscrea
Once the player leaves the Mausoleum the final objective is fulfilled and the quest is
completed

Bonus
Wait? What’s this? You just finished the quest why are you still typing? Don’t you
think you’ve talked enough crap for today, n’wah?
First of all, I want to thank everyone who takes some of their valuable time to read
my material, I really wish to become part of the Beyond Skyrim Team (and other
project’s teams as well!) and I deeply hope you enjoyed reading my application or
at least didn’t cringe too hard at my attempts of writing a smug female antagonist
Supposing I am accepted into the team and the team thinks my application is so
good it actually deserves getting made into a quest I have also planned the design
for some of the unique rewards, after all a unique quest deserves unique armory,
innit?
Please keep in mind that I am in no way trying to tell the art and modeling how to
do their job, it’s all up to them however I figured out I could give them some ideas,
again I am no balance expert. This section is mostly dedicated to the aesthetics of
each item

Unique Item: Fatherland

Type: Two-handed Battleaxe
Damage: 30
Speed: 0.6
Weight: 35
Reach: 1.6
Value: 5000
Tempering: Yeah…no, it’s overpowered as it is
Enchantment: Imperial flames
Deal 30 points of fire damage, 35% chance of causing a fire explosion
Aesthetics: Okay so this is my favorite part, my idea for the Fatherland Battleaxe
is a cool mix between Imperial and Nordic weaponry, basically the most Nordic
battleaxe you could think of, with the Septim Empire’s motifs and decorations
The axe’s handle should be wooden with a reddish-wooden brown texture similar
to Californian Redwood trees
At the end of the handle there should be a ruby-shaped pommel (The Cyrodiilic
Empire’s ruby) made out of either a fire opal or a spinel
The higher part of the handle should be reinforced with a leather handle guard
made out of dark brown in a
Finally the axe head should mostly resemble a traditional norse axe head or a
bearded axe for the matter, this axe head should be carved with traditional norse
engravings however these engravings should depict the Imperial Dragon of the
Septim spitting fire (Hence the enchantment)

I will now proceed to add some reference pictures; please keep in mind I have no
copyright claim to any of these pictures. All rights are reserved!
