Part 1:
Glossary of terms

1 Scope
This standard defines selected terms used in welding, cutting and allied processes.

2 Definitions
air-gas, bunsen type
welding torch incorporating an injector to produce a flame suitable for lead burning or soldering

air-gas, high temperature type

welding torch incorporating an injector with a hooded head to produce a flame suitable for brazing

all-position welding
variation of backward welding in which the flame is approximately normal to the molten pool

all-weld metal deposition rate

mass of all-weld metal deposited per unit of productive weld time

all-weld test sample

test sample consisting of a block of metal formed of one bead or of a number of beads fused
together. It may or may not include portions of parent metal

all-weld test specimen

all-weld-metal test specimen
test specimen in which the portion to be tested is composed wholly of deposited metal

alumino-thermic welding
flow welding whereby the welding heat is obtained from reacting a mixture of metal oxides with fine
ground aluminium powder whose ignition produces an exothermic reaction in which the molten
metal produced is the filler metal

angle electrode
pressure-welding electrode in which the electrode tip is not normal to the axis of the electrode
shank (see figure 1)

angle of bevel
angle at which the edge of a component has been bevelled in preparation for welding (see figure 2)
