Raindance Film Festival

Raindance Film Festival invites UK and International producers and filmmakers


to submit their films to its 29th edition that will take place in 2021 in central
London or online

The Raindance Film Festival aims to show the very best in new cinema from
the UK and around the world and specialises in first-time directors and
discovery.

Vibe Productions would like you to a production for


2020 entry.

Your production must be completed and


submitted by Friday 12th March 2020.

The Festival accepts feature films (over 45 min.), 2


short films (under 45 min.), music videos (under 6
min) Documentary, Animation and web series.
Projects of all lengths and genres are welcomed
and the Raindance Film Festival is committed to
showing the boldest and most innovative work,
and films that challenge the boundaries of
filmmaking.

Submissions are reviewed and selected under the following


criteria:
- Quality of narrative and production values.
- Independent nature of the production.

The Fine Print

You must each produce your own video using the following guidelines:

• You must originate and produce your own idea


• Must not suggest any drug use
• Must not contain any unnecessary / excessive bad language
• Must not be on any topic related to COVID 19

Documentation

Prior to shooting your production, you should submit the following:

o Props List
o Crew List
o Contingency Plan

Raindance Film Festival will be taking mise-en-scene, editing, camera work and
appropriateness to the genre all into consideration when deciding on their award
winners. Make it original and creative, don’t just stick to the norm.
Grading Criteria

Unit aim: Develop students’ abilities to critically analyse and


integrate, knowledge and understanding acquired in previous
units and to investigate the specific skills and attributes required for
creative production and technology in visual-based media
platforms.

Learning Outcomes Tasks

1. Be able to analyse a visual- based Writing a brief and research


problem in creative media
production.
2. Be able to use an integrated Planning and production
approach to visual-based creative
media problem solving and
production.
3. Be able to evaluate solutions to a Weekly blogs and
visual-based problem in creative Evaluation
media production.
LO1.1 Production Research:

1. Analyse 2 examples of productions from your genre. You need to


research into the locations used, props, costume, narrative and shot
types. This research will be written directly onto your webpage with
supporting videos and screenshots.

2. Primary and secondary research into codes and conventions of your


medium (music video / short film / stop motion etc.)

- This should include focus groups, surveys, social media


questionnaires
- All secondary research must be fully Harvard Referenced

3. Physical practice examples of codes and conventions uploaded to your


page and their success analysed
LO1.2 Promotional Research:

1. Analyse the promotion of similar product types to yours. You must look at
how the 2 productions use:

- Websites
- Social media

How do they use these to promote the production? Design? What


pages do they have? What content is included?

2. Compare the two professional sites to one another

3. What could you take from these to help you create your own website to
promote your production?
LO2.1 Planning and Production:

The Raindance Film Festival will be selecting the winning


production based on the following elements:

1. Mise-en-scene
2. Camera angles and shots
3. Use of correct lighting
4. Locations used
5. Professional pre-production

Prior to shooting your production, you need to plan it to ensure its success.
Complete the pre-production booklet in as much detail as possible as this will help
you to produce as professional a product as possible. It will make your more time
efficient when filming and will ensure you move the camera more effectively.

Your pre-production should include the following (some may vary dependent on
production)

• Production Schedule
• Script / Shooting Script
• Storyboard
• Props List
• Crew List
• Location Recces
• Clearances and Confirmations
• Contingency Plan

We understand that recording is a little restricted at the moment but as with all great
filmmakers, you need to work with what you have. Make sure your production suits the
locations you are able to film in.
LO2.2 Building Promotion:

1. You are required to build a promotional website for your production.


This site should be influenced by the research you previously
completed, having multiple tabs with a variety of information.

2. Create social media accounts to promote your production. On these


you should have behind the scenes footage and images as well as
promotional material for your upcoming project.
LO3 Weekly Journal and final evaluation

As with previous units, you should be continuing to complete weekly journal


entries - evaluating, analysing and highlighting areas for improvement.

It is extremely important that these are completed as you work and not just at the
end. Please remember to take photos as you film and screenshots as you edit. All of
this will help to support what you are evaluating.
