CivE 265 Lab Assignment 4 Fall 2020

Tutorial Guide to AutoCAD 2020

Complete the following exercises:
• Work through Tutorial 7 - Dimensioning
• Work through Tutorial 9 – Section Views (stop at page 380)

Tutorial 7
• Page 287
o You may use your own MYTEMPLATE.dwt instead of PROTO.dwt
o Ensure the viewport scale is set to 1:1
• Page 298
o Follow the Tip on this page for setting up the radial dimensions
• Page 313
o Plot the drawing after saving it
• Page 314
o Be sure to erase the note before saving the template file
• Page 318
o “If you want to Plot your drawing from paper space”…
You want to Plot it!
Check that the title bar is correct.
• Page 321
o If the text does not align as indicated, try redoing the command. If it still
doesn’t work, delete the dimension and try again. If you manually moved the
dimension, align is not available.
• Page 328
o When you change the viewport scale the text may not update itself even though
you have selected “Scale to Layout” in the dimension setup. If this is the case,
after you change the viewport scale you will have to update the dimensions.
Select the “Update Icon” from the Annotate tab, Dimensions panel. At the
prompt to select objects, type in ALL and press Enter. The dimensions should
now update.

Tutorial 9
• Page 378
o Stretch it approximately 0.5 units.
• Page 379
o The plotted drawing and electronic file will be different. The final electronic
drawing will have:
▪ The object stretched
▪ The section text
▪ Hatch angles changed.
o The submitted electronic drawing will be the stretched drawing and the
plotted drawing will be the original.
CivE 265 Lab Assignment 4 Fall 2020

Pencil
Complete the following supplementary worksheet:
(use neat simple block lettering in the title strips)
• SCALES (ENG)
Do the following problems with the type of pictorial sketch listed below. The images below
are provided from the Engineering Graphics textbook. These problems must each be done on
a separate sheet of paper – do not try and fit them on the same sheet as the multi-views:
• 50 – isometric
• 62 – cabinet oblique
• 66 – cavalier oblique

Checklist
Files to upload to eClass:
• OBJ-DIM.dwg • SCALES (ENG) Worksheet
• DIMTEMPLATE.dwt • Isometric and oblique pictorials on plain white paper
• ADAPT-DM.dwg
• Plots from Tutorial 7
• BOSSECT.dwg
• Plot from Tutorial 9

Notes
Beforehand…
For Tutorial 7, the saved drawing will have the annotative text. Notice the NOTE and PAINT
THIS SURFACE are always the same size, while the dimension text changes size. Do not select
the “SYNC SCALE POSITIONS” as this will move the text to the same location at both scales. On
the 6”=1’ you want the text offset from the object. Save the drawing at this scale. This is the
file to upload. The plotted and uploaded files will be different.
For Tutorial 9, stop at the beginning of AUXILIARY VIEWS.

Exams
At the end of each of the tutorials are two key areas:
• Key Terms
• Key Commands
Make sure that you understand both with respect to the AutoCAD software as they may show
up on the midterm and final exams.

Data Files
The tutorial files will be located on the server in the directory:
Network: (drive N) Courses/Datafiles
The data files can also be downloaded from the SDC Publications website. Find the Lockhart
book in the list of AutoCAD 2020 books. Select the Downloads tab in the middle of the page.
You can also download them from eClass.
