Doosan Puma Work Ejector

Tip Replacement
The Puma series machines with sub-spindle may have an optional work
ejector, with one tip, approximately 0.750 in diameter. This tip will not eject
a part smaller than the diameter, and in fact, may hit the back of the collet
before reaching full extension, causing an alarm (2053 – Work ejector time
over). In this case it will be necessary to replace the tip. Daewoo offers
several, but it may be more practical and cost-effective for the customer to
make their own.

The work ejector tube is hollow, allowing the sub-spindle TSC to flush out the
inside of the collet nose assembly. Be sure that any replacement tip has
coolant holes in it.

This is a pneumatic system, activated by an M116 commanded while the sub-
spindle chuck is unclamped. The ejector advances until it makes the
proximity switch, then is retracted under spring pressure. In the normal
(retracted) state, the tip is virtually inaccessible inside the drawtube (see
Figure 1).

To change the tip it is necessary to extend the piston rod (see Figure 2).
Once extended, the tip can be removed using 17mm and 14mm open-end
wrenches.

To extend the piston, locate the solenoid valve for the parts ejector (see
Figure 3).

Push in the blue lever and turn it ¼ turn clockwise (see Figure 4).

While holding the ejector tube with a 14mm open-end wrench, remove the
tip using a 17mm open-end wrench. After replacing the tip, remember to de-
activate the solenoid by turning the blue lever ¼ turn counter-clockwise.
