Aluminum is one of the most abundant metals on earth and it has permeated mainstream

products to the degree that it’s virtually impossible to completely avoid exposure. In industrial
sector, aluminium has their own disadvantage. Welding of aluminium in the industrial sector
requires specialized equipment and training compared to welding of steel. This is because
aluminium cannot take the same stress as steel. Aluminium is cheaper than stainless steel ,
if it is judged from their anti-corrosive properties but aluminium will cost more compare to
basic steel.

Aluminium metal could also bring harmful effect to human body and the environment. Just
like any other harmful materials, aluminium target the central nervous system. This is
because toxic metals such as aluminium contribute to brain diseases by producing oxidative
stress and aluminium is linked to degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and
Parkinson’s.

Human can be exposed to excessive uptake of aluminium through food, breathing and from
skin contact. Lost lasting and excessive exposure of aluminium can lead to serious health
issues such as dementia, loss of memory and even damage to the central nervous system.
In a working environments, such as mines, aluminium can be found in water. People that
work in factories where aluminum were used during production processes may endure lung
problems when they breathe in aluminum dust. Aluminum can cause problems for kidney
patients when it enters the body during kidney dialyses. Inhalation of aluminum and
aluminum oxide powder can lead to pulmonary fibrosis and lung damage and will causes
them to having Shaver’s disease

The effects of aluminum toward environment is mainly due to the acidifying problems.
Aluminum may accumulate in plants and cause health problems for animals that consume
these plants. The high concentrations of aluminum in the lakes will make the aluminium ion
reaction with protein In the gills of fish and the embryo of frogs thus making their number
declining.

High aluminum concentrations do not only cause effects upon fish, but also upon birds and
other animals that consume contaminated fish and insects or breath contaminated air. The
consequences for birds that consume contaminated fish are their eggshell thinning and
chicks with low birth-weights. Other effect of aluminum is that its ions can react with
phosphates, which causes phosphates to be less available to water organisms. High
concentrations of aluminum were also found in the groundwater of acidified soils. There are
strong indications that aluminum can damage the roots of trees when it is located in
groundwater.
