Teaching Philosophy

It is my belief that every student deserves an equal opportunity to learn and develop no

matter what the circumstances are. In my opinion, effort is the most important aspect of

teaching students. You can only ask your students to give their best effort in class and if they do

this, they will be successful in school as well as later in life. Due to this, I expect every student to

try his/her best in everything they do while in my class. One of my goals as a Physical Education

teacher is to help students improve in all areas of physical fitness and find enjoyment in such

activities so that when they leave my class, they will continue to live a healthy and active

lifestyle for the rest of their lives. It is also my belief that the teaching of physical education

should include all three domains of learning. This is because when students leave my class at

the end of the year, they will have developed three well-rounded components of learning that

include physical ability, knowledge, and social development.

As a teacher, I expect all of my students to learn how to be self-disciplined within the

classroom setting. If my students learn and master self-discipline, they will learn what is right

from wrong and have the ability to control their emotions and overcome their weaknesses. If

students master this skill, they will become more focused on the importance of our class and

see what we are trying to accomplish. This self-discipline will eventually lead to mutual respect

between me and the students. Having respect between the students will allow for better class

flow and more learning opportunities. I also believe that students need to learn the importance

of being compassionate towards others. If students can demonstrate compassion, then they
will be able to build strong connections with other students which will greatly improve the

classes affective learning. Demonstrating compassion in class will also have a positive effect on

students’ personal feelings. Helping and caring for each other in class will lead to positive

emotions which will cause improved student learning during lessons.

As a teacher, I also believe that all classes within school are equally important to the

development of the students. Due to this, I feel it is inappropriate for students to miss or take

time away from other classes in order to complete a task/assignment for Physical Education. In

return, I believe it is wrong for other teachers to take students time away from physical

education because they feel their class is more important to the development of the student.

This should not be the case as all classes are required in the school setting for a reason as they

all aid in the development of the student one way or another.
