What if you wake up as usual, doing everyday routine, and suddenly a zombie apocalypse

comes, and you must stay isolated at your house or you will get eaten by them. What will
you do ?
So, in this time, im gonna talk about the movie #ALIVE. #ALIVE was realeased on Netflix on
Tuesday, September 8 2020. But, they have realeased it before on cinema in South Korea on
June 24 2020. Starring park shin ye, the famous actress who plays the Heirs, the legendary
K-Drama. She plays as kim yoo-bin, and yoo ah-in also a famous actor plays as oh joon-wo.
This movie has Zombie Thriller genre. Directed by Cho Il-Hyung, producted by Zip Cinema
and Perspective Pictures, distributed by Lotte Entertainment, and also for a fact, this movie
is based on the original script "#Alone" of Hollywood screenwriter Matt Naylor.
#ALIVE tells about Joon woo, a boy who lives with his parents and a sister. Joon woo spends
his days playing video games and livestreaming. Someday, when his family went out, his
online friend urged him to turn on the TV.
News emerges about a mysteriouse disease that is spreading like a wildfire and causing
infected people to eat each other. The government lost control and things got even more
chaotic.
Joon woo looks at his balcony and surprised by the situation. He sees people eating each
other. There is a strange voice, joon woo goes check outside of his apartment, theres his
neighbor who is trying to break into his unit. Turns out, the neighbor is one of the infected
human. He tries to bite Joon woo, luckily, he successes to kick him out.
Joon woo immediately barricaded himself in his apartment unit. He followed the instruction
to stay at his house. He also posting a rescue request on social media, following the other
survivors. Within days, the environment had been filled with this mysterious infection. Day
by day he runs out of water, food, even electricity !
When it comes to a zombie movie, one thing pops out in my mind. Survive. #ALIVE
successes to portrayed it. Wondering will he still #ALIVE or no. also, to stay isolated at home
for weeks without any preparation, will he die because of the zombie, or even because he
cant find something to eat. The movie uses chronological plot and they tell the condition
day by day. We can see that Joon woo is getting more frustated day by day. He even tried to
hang himself on the 20th day, until a girl found him and stop him to kill himself. They became
friends and tries to survive together.
The movie serves the tension very well. Even tho they didn’t put a lot of dialogues in the
movie, I can still understand how is the characters feeling. and of course because the acting
of the actors is really good as well. The color grading is on point, it doesn’t look like the
other zombie movies that have a bold dark mood. We can really feel that This movie has a
modern but still terrifying vibe. We also served with the looks of the zombies. Looks very
realistic and….gross. The movie uses conventional stuffs and not many weapons. Thats what
makes the movie feels more relate to our everyday life.
Also, This movie doesn’t have that much of a heroic fight scene with the zombies. So, for
you who likes “ Train to Busan” or “Kingdom”, maybe you will find this movie feel a little
boring. #ALIVE really focused on the character. They display how the characters survive
without internet, connections, and the struggle being alone in the middle of the chaotic
phenomena.
The two different character which are kim yoo-bin and oh joon-wo succcesfully blend
together. Their personalities that are very different to each other makes the movie even
more exciting. I also really like how they focused on the characer and how will they survive
instead of focusing on the heroic scene. Combined with how they used the technology that
we use daily. Moreover, the character are potrayed as a teenager, really related to us.
But just a little detail, theres a scene when kim yoo-bin planted her plant, I thought the
plant would has an important role to the story, but no. it doesn’t have any important role to
the story. That would be more cooler if the plant had that role.
For the conclusion, this movie is really good and fresh, you might interested if you are
looking for a thriller movie but not that heavy. And one thing that makes the movie even
more special Is how This movie really clicked on us because this movie maybe related to the
current situation where COVID 19 came in and we gotta stay at home.
From my perpective, the Director, Il Cho is trying to tell us who watch this in the middle of
the pandemic too that we are not alone. He persuaded us to keep fighting and don’t give up
a hope. Also, enjoy every moment we have with our family while we have it. Cause we never
know when will le lost them.
For #ALIVE, I give 8/10. Good movie !
