All in a day

If you are spending a vacation in the Balkans, I recommend that you pay a visit to its
unofficial capital, Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Situated at the invisible border
between East and West, the city is an unique mixture of different cultures, and living proof
of historical richness of the region.

Despite its gloomy past of a focal point of the Bosnian War in the 90’s, it is no longer an
unsafe area. In the recent years it has restored its genuine, relaxed atmosphere. You can
travel by public transport and walk everywhere around the city untroubled, so long as you
retain your common sense. In Sarajevo you will find a wide array of accommodation to
choose from, most of which provide a high quality service at reasonable prices.

Make sure to visit the Old Town and submerge yourself in the maze of narrow streets and
motley bazaars that remind about Sarajevo’s oriental legacy. Do not forget to take a break
over a cup of traditional Bosnian coffee before continuing the tour. You may also want to see
some historical sites, such as the Latin Bridge – the place of assassination of archduke Franz
Ferdinand, which have allegedly triggered World War I. Since Sarajevo had been a host city
of XIV Olympic Winter Games in 1984, many vestiges of this glorious times still can be found
in its vicinity. While visiting old Olympic facilities in the surrounding mountains you will enjoy
breathtaking views.
