While some assert that international movies are advantageous to be broadcasted, others claim that such

movies result in adverse effects on local traditions. Both sides of this debate will be discussed as follows.

On the one hand, people supporting movies from overseas believe that the benefits acquiring from
them are by no means negligible. To begin with, the dissemination of such movies could broaden
people’s horizons and knowledge in different countries. That is to say, the familiarization of nations with
other religious beliefs and moral values as well as traditional cultures existing in other parts of the globe
could provide individuals with a great understanding about people throughout the world. Take Friends
series as an example; this movie make their viewers informed of an American lifestyle. In addition,
watching foreign movies could accelerate and facilitate the language learning process. In other words,
such foreign films not only play a vital role in pedagogical process in language learning classes but also
create an opportunity for developing language skills in self-study learning.

On the other hand, others who put forward the argument against foreign films mention two specific
reasons. First and foremost, the implementation of some ground rules establishing in other countries is
taboo in certain countries. That is, learning a specific pattern of behavior from a foreign movie which is
considered as discourteous in their home country, citizens of a country are treated in a negative manner
by the local authority and their fellow citizens. Furthermore, watching foreign movies could bring other
nations depression or a sense of resentment, especially among youngsters. For instance, the young
living in Iran or similar countries with lower levels of freedom of speech might be highly frustrated and
resentful, since they expect to be given as much freedom as their counterparts in more developed
countries have. This sentiment in turn leads people to become much more dissatisfied with their own
cultural and traditional values.

In conclusion, it seems logical to me that the drawbacks of internationally-produced movies are

extremely destructive for viewers’ customs. The reasons are behaving in an discourteous and
unaccepted way and a feelings of depression and dissatisfaction with their own culture.
