What types of plants live in the region?

Of the 40,000 plants known to exist in the Amazon, 75% are endemic or only

found in the Amazon. These include bromeliads, palms, epiphytes, vines, ferns,
lilies, orchids and trees (see Trees).

What kinds of animals live in the region?

The Amazon is one of Earth's last refuges for jaguars, harpy eagles, and pink river
dolphins, and it is home to sloths, black spider monkeys, and poison dart frogs. It
contains one in 10 known  species on Earth, 40,000 plant  species, 3,000
freshwater fish species, and more than 370 types of reptiles.

The Republic of Colombia  is situated largely in the northwest of  South America ,

with some territories falling within the boundaries of  Central America . It is bordered
to the northwest by Panama ; to the east by Venezuela  and Brazil ; to the south
by Ecuador  and Peru ; [ 1 ]  and it shares maritime limits with  Costa
Rica , Nicaragua , Honduras , Jamaica , the Dominican Republic , and Haiti.
