Introduction
For the first time, The Malaysian Society of Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH)
is strategizing a 4-year strategies for the association in promoting its existence as a
prominent Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) association in Malaysia. Initially,
MSOSH was known as The Malaysian Society for Industrial Safety and it was
registered on the 27th April 1971. Since its formation and registration, the Society has
all the time been a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organisation. In
1991 the Society was renamed as the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and
Health where the Patron of the Society is the Honourable Minister for Human
Resources Malaysia.
Besides that, MSOSH will also play its role to encourage OSH Practitioners and
Professionals to extend and share their expertise and experience in managing OSH
at workplace. This will help DOSH in their effort to reduce the accident rate at the
workplace among the industries in Malaysia. Furthermore, MSOSH feels driven to
inculcate OSH culture among the Malaysian society. And this is the beginning of
MSOSH journey in our commitment to upraise the OSH standards in Malaysia will be
initiated by OSH Practitioners and Professionals itself.
VISION:
To be the leader in Occupational Safety and
Health (OSH) Organization in Asia Pacific
MISSION:
To enhance and promote OSH in all workplaces and in all
industries in support of the Government’s policy on OSH
MSOSH will use OSHMP2020 five strategies as a baseline and come out with its own
six strategies based on OSHMP2020 (refer to figure 2). This new initiative by MSOSH
will put in place a few programs based on OSHMP2020. This will help and support
DOSH in achieving its objectives and targets by the year 2020. Using SMART
approach in planning the related programs and activities, MSOSH will contribute and
play its role as an OSH association to help DOSH based on its capacity and capability
represented by OSH practitioners and professionals in Malaysia.
In the industrial sector, six portfolios will focus on different industrial areas as stated
under schedule 1 of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). It is summarized in
Table 1. Each industry will be monitored by a dedicated portfolio for a more effective
execution in assisting the industry to manage their OSH and to cultivate OSH culture
at the workplace.

monitoring of membership validity
4. To establish OSH Library in MSOSH Office and online library for MSOSH
members.
5. To organize roadshows and engagement sessions at state levels eg. Teh Tarik
session, SHO gathering and sport program.
6. To digitalise MSOSH community through maximising the use of MSOSH
website and online database.
Programs:
1. To organize event for Malaysia Book of Record programs (or OSH related
events) during World OSH Day
2. OSH in Tahfiz as Malaysia Book of Record programs.
3. To set up MSOSH Academy for affordable and quality trainings for members
and other stakeholders.
4. To introduce OSH subjects in the education system (pre-school).
5. To collaborate with local universities in organizing seminar / talks on OSH.
6. To establish MSOSH Student Chapter for all universities.
