MSOSH2021âSeptember 2018
Introduction

For the first time, The Malaysian Society of Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH)
is strategizing a 4-year strategies for the association in promoting its existence as a
prominent Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) association in Malaysia. Initially,
MSOSH was known as The Malaysian Society for Industrial Safety and it was
registered on the 27th April 1971. Since its formation and registration, the Society has
all the time been a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organisation. In
1991 the Society was renamed as the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and
Health where the Patron of the Society is the Honourable Minister for Human
Resources Malaysia.

The current MSOSH objectives are:

1. To develop leadership, ethical and integrity values among the members
2. To enhance competency and capability for OSH Practitioners and
Professionals
3. To promote volunteerism among the members
4. To be a platform for togetherness and welfares through strong member
partnership
5. To move proactively into OSH international participation and
collaboration activities
6. To inculcate a balance health, safety, well-being among member as an
agent of change for public community

Our inaugural strategies, MSOSH2018-2021 “Shaping new OSH Profession in

Malaysia”, sets out to accomplish the objectives, hence paving the steps that we, the
association and profession need to take. It was planned as part of the MSOSH journey
to become an OSH association in Malaysia that will play a pro-active role in supporting
the OSH enforcement authority, Department of Occupational Safety and Health
(DOSH). MSOSH will help to elevate OSH at the workplace by supporting DOSH
activities and programs based on 5 Years OSH Master Plan known as OSHMP2020.

Besides that, MSOSH will also play its role to encourage OSH Practitioners and
Professionals to extend and share their expertise and experience in managing OSH
at workplace. This will help DOSH in their effort to reduce the accident rate at the
workplace among the industries in Malaysia. Furthermore, MSOSH feels driven to
inculcate OSH culture among the Malaysian society. And this is the beginning of
MSOSH journey in our commitment to upraise the OSH standards in Malaysia will be
initiated by OSH Practitioners and Professionals itself.
VISION:
To be the leader in Occupational Safety and
Health (OSH) Organization in Asia Pacific
MISSION:
To enhance and promote OSH in all workplaces and in all
industries in support of the Government’s policy on OSH

OSHMP2020
In establishing the master plan, our point of reference is the OSH Master Plan
(OSHMP2020) that was initiated by DOSH. Based on OSHMP2020, there are five (5)
main strategies based on the effort to increase awareness, responsibility and
commitment from the stakeholders (refer to figure 1).

Figure 1: 5 Main Strategies of OSHMP2020 by DOSH (ref: Pelan Induk

Keselamatan and Kesihatan Pekerjaan 2016-2020)

The five OSHMP2020 strategies, it will be supported by various programs and

activities that will focus to create preventive culture among the employers and
employees. Thus, commitment from the employers and employees is needed to
ensure the success of these strategies. BUT, OSH association and OSH competent
practitioners and professionals also play important roles. This is because, our co-
existence is vital as an agent of change to influence and convince all the stakeholders
such as the government, employers and employees on the importance of OSH at the
workplace.

MSOSH will use OSHMP2020 five strategies as a baseline and come out with its own
six strategies based on OSHMP2020 (refer to figure 2). This new initiative by MSOSH
will put in place a few programs based on OSHMP2020. This will help and support
DOSH in achieving its objectives and targets by the year 2020. Using SMART
approach in planning the related programs and activities, MSOSH will contribute and
play its role as an OSH association to help DOSH based on its capacity and capability
represented by OSH practitioners and professionals in Malaysia.
