Today there is enormous potential for

applications can already be covered with today’s

system is managed by Voith’s Drive Management
System (DMU) with an integrated safety controller;
another safety controller monitors the inverter and

The system is able to work with practically all battery

of simple outer interfaces for the connection to the
batteries. The circuit is managed by Voith’s Master

“To have an efficient system though, it is

the synchronizer’s meshing time, especially in the

According to Hoerbiger the result is faster
gear shifts, or shorter shift delays, and decreased
interruption of torque flow. The drop in rotational
speed and driving speed is less dramatic, especially
on uphill grades, lowering fuel consumption.
Finally, this system will allow commercial vehicles
to be operated in the correct gear and speed range

that “effortless gear changes” can also increase safety,
since drivers remain focused on traffic, instead of
being distracted by shifting. dpi

maintenance
Oil rig vessels are usually maintained in ports and need
generator sets to produce continuous power for the cranes
and machinery used to repair them. These machines are
specially designed to work around the clock, with brief
interruptions for maintenance.
Himoinsa gen-sets were chosen by the company SUIM
for the maintenance of oil rigs in the port of Las Palmas de
Gran Canaria, Spain.
One unit is the HMW – 1015 model with an MTU engine
specially configured to 690-V voltage. This gen-set was
originally designed to work at 50 Hz but was adapted
to run at 60Hz, in line with the demands of the project:
the maintenance of the 238 metre-long DS11 drillship
belonging to Enesco.
The gen-set is mounted in a 20-foot container whose
design includes mooring and lifting points that make it easy
to transport. For the project in Las Palmas the container
had to be hoisted onto and then mounted on the drilling
rig which required two of the port’s cranes. Himoinsa
reported that this was a complex manoeuvre but, thanks
to the compact design and the lifting hooks, the unit was
fitted into a narrow space on the vessel without causing
any damage.
Himoinsa has also developed new, low noise, long
running time models in the Silent Plus range for the rental
market powered by Yanmar, FPT and Scania engines. A 20-foot container hosting a Himoinsa HMW – 1015 gen-set with MTU engine is waiting
to be hoisted onto a drillship to deliver continuous power for onboard maintenance

AGCO expands Carlos Ayala.

AGCO has expanded its plant in Ibirubá city, Brazil with the facility now including a training centre, prototypes
engineering area and a new products line.
The renovation is part of a US$16 million investment by the company over the past five years. Rafael Ferraz,
who is responsible for the operation in Ibirubá, said: “Our focus, since last year, has been to prepare manufacturing
areas to receive new products soon.”
In July, AGCO Ibirubá was recognized as the best plant among all of the company’s operations globally. At the
site, the company’s products include front shovel and sprayer distributors for Massey Ferguson and Valtra.
This year, the brands launched their planting line with AGCO - Precision Planting and intelligent dispensers for
seeds distribution. The system, which now will be implemented at the factory, will be in the models Frontier CFS
and HiTech, from Valtra, and in the planting line MF 500 and MF 700 CFS, from Massey Ferguson.
