NOTE
Read this entire manual carefully in order to obtain a thorough knowledge with respect to
the system and the components, in addition to their operation and maintenance.
Operate the system and the components correctly in accordance with this manual in order
to avoid injuries and damage to the plant.
Keep this manual available and consult it for guidance when you are unsure about how to
carry out one or another of the procedures.
DANGER
Electrical voltage
Risk of fatal injury through contact with parts carrying electrical voltage! Switch the system
off before performing any cleaning or maintenance tasks.
l Switch off the power switch for the power distributor.
l Switch off the UPS, if installed.
l Disconnect the mains connection, if installed, between the UPS (Uninterruptible
Power Supply) and the system itself (see section "General power interruption" in the
operating manual).
l Disconnect the connector of the power supply cable from the electrical socket in-
stalled by the building contractor.

WARNING
Risk of impact
Be careful not to injure your head when the control panel or rear door is opened.
l Move carefully when the control panel or the rear door is opened.
DANGER
Adverse weather conditions
Make sure that no water/liquids (e.g. rain, snow etc.) gets into the open system and the
exposed components, especially under adverse weather conditions, since that could pose
a danger to your life.
Be sure to take suitable precautions when working on an open system (e.g. by covering
components where necessary) so that fluid cannot enter the open system.
• For reasons of stability, the system must be screwed to the load-bearing substructure of the installa-
tion site or mounted on a suitable base.
• When moving the system from a cold to a warm environment, condensations might occur. Therefore
consider an acclimatization time of at least two hours, before you connect the system to the supply
voltage.
• Only use the original packaging material to transport the system.
• Observe the warning and information labels on the system.
• Unless otherwise stated, grasp the components only by the green control elements when handling
them.
• This system is equipped with a safety-tested power cable which must be connected to a suitable
grounded socket only.
• Always hold the plug when removing the power cable. Never pull on the cable itself.
• Lay all connecting cables in such a way that they will not be stepped on or tripped over, damaged or
crushed in any way.
• Have damaged power cables replaced immediately.
• Make sure that there is always free access to the electrical sockets used or to the electrical circuit-
breakers of the facility installation.
DANGER
In case of an emergency (e.g. damaged cabinets, controls or power cables, liquids or for-
eign objects in the system) take the following steps:
Switch the system voltage-free immediately by:
l Switching off the automatic circuit breaker or removing the fuse insert from the fuse
holder in the distributor box of the facility installation.
l Disconnecting the plug of the power supply cable from the grounded socket in the fa-
cility installation.
l Interrupting the power connection between the UPS (uninterruptible power supply)
and the system (see chapter "Introduction", section "General power interruption" in
the operating manual);
l For further system-specific notes, please refer to the operating manuals.
l Inform the customer service responsible for you.
DANGER
Repair work on the system or on the components may be carried out only by authorized
specialist staff. Unauthorized opening of the system or repair work carried out improperly
could result in considerable danger to the user. In case of noncompliance, excludes all lia-
bility.
Lithium batteries
DANGER
Danger of fire and explosion
The handling and replacement of batteries should only be performed by authorized per-
sonnel trained by .
There is a risk of fire or explosion if the batteries are handled improperly. It is therefore im-
portant to note the following points:
l Avoid short circuits
l Never recharge the battery
l Avoid temperatures above +100°C (+212°F).
l Do not attempt to open the battery by force
l Do not allow the battery to come into contact with water or fire
l The battery should only be replaced with the same or an equivalent type recom-
mended by (see chapter “Appendix,” section “Consumables” in the operating man-
ual). Dispose of used batteries in compliance with national regulations and the manu-
facturer's specifications.

3 Description 3.1
The receipt printer TP31 is compact and modular printer with a thermal printing unit, a integrated cutter
and a presenter.
The receipt printer TP31 is available in two versions:
• TP31 (without retract function)
• TP31R (with retract function)
The receipt printer generates documents according to user software specifications, e.g. receipt slips.
The paper path is controlled by several paper sensors. The printer is equipped with sensors which indi-
cate the remaining quantity of paper (weekend supply) and the end of the paper supply. The paper sup-
ply can thus be monitored with the user software.
The TP31 can process paper rolls coated on the top as well as on the bottom. Control marks can be
evaluated.
TP31R: The retract function for receipts that have not been withdrawn is configurable.

3.2.1.1 LF key
• In normal operation, actuation of the LF key triggers the paper feed for as long as it is pressed down.
• In the event of an error, the LF key has no function.
• If the LF key is pressed when the printer is switched on, then the printer will switch over to self-test
mode. If the button remains pressed down for one second, then a test print will be output.

4.1.1.1 Changing the position of the control mark sensor between the thermal print
side and the rear
Depending on the control mark positions on the paper roll, the control mark sensor can be installed on
the paper guide in the direction of the thermal print side or in the direction of the back side.
1. Pull the release lever of the paper guide up-
1 wards (1).
2. Fold the paper guide in the direction of the
arrow (2).

In order for the paper-low sensor to determine if the paper roll is nearly finished, the following circumfer-
ence should be still on the paper roll.

5 Maintenance
Repairs
DANGER
Repair work on the system or on the components may be carried out only by authorized
specialist staff. Unauthorized opening of the system or repair work carried out improperly
could result in considerable danger to the user. In case of noncompliance, excludes all lia-
bility.
WARNING
Risk of impact
Be careful not to injure your head when the control panel or rear door is opened.
l Move carefully when the control panel or the rear door is opened.
5.1
5.1 Malfunctions
1. Activate the product-specific software (see system manual, chapter "Basic operation", section "Call-
ing up product-specific software").
2. Open the system.
3. Get access to the (for its position in the system, please refer to the chapter entitled "System over-
view"; for its accessibility, refer to the chapter entitled "Basic operation").
CAUTION
Hot printing unit
Touching the printing unit can cause burns.
l Wait a few minutes after the printing has just finished.
l Wear protective gloves.
CAUTION
Armed cutting edge
Touching the cutter could cause cuts.
l Do not touch the cutter.
l Wear protective gloves.
1. If you cannot locate an error cause, close the system, exit the product-specific software and contact
the Service department.
NOTE
If the print image deteriorates over time the cause may be a soiled thermal array.
This section describes how to clean the thermal array.
If this does not improve the print quality, please contact Service.
1. Activate the product-specific software (see "Basic Operation" chapter, "Calling the product-specific
software" section).
2. Open the system and access the receipt printer (for its position in the Productname please refer to
the chapter "Device Overview", for its accessibility, refer to the chapter "Basic Operation").
3. Interrupt the power supply by unplugging the power supply connector.
CAUTION
Risk of burns!
The print head could be hot. Wait a few minutes for print head to cool down if it has just
finished printing.
NOTE
The printer determines automatically whether or not the error has been eliminated. If the
error has been eliminated, the respective error message disappears.
*A thermal resistor monitors the temperature of the print head. If this exceeds 65°C, then the short-circuit
fuse switches off the electricity supply and stops the printout.
