Citizen MDS-B-PJEX, Automatic PLG Adjustment Procedure
Overview
This procedure will show how to perform automatic PLG adjustment for Citizen Machines with MDS-B-SPJ2X and MDS-B-
PJEX spindle system for Simple C Axis function after PJEX or PLG replacement

Instructions
I. When to perform the Automatic Adjustment
A. When the SPJX unit is replaced or swapped
B. When the spindle PLG is adjusted or parts are replaced and the drive has an MDS-B-
PJEX unit attached to the spindle drive
C. When C axis accuracy issues arise and the machine has an MDS-PJEX unit attached to
the spindle drive
*If the main spindle is being adjusted, the slave to the guide bushing needs to be removed. See
Appendix for running the main spindle and guide bushing separately
II. PLG Automatic Adjustment
A. Enable Parameter writing
1. Press [MAINT] key on operator panel
2. Press [I/F Diag] soft key
3. Enter “1001” for Device
4. Enter “M” for Mode
5. Press [INPUT] key

B. Change Parameter for Automatic Adjustment


1. Press the [Parameter] button on the operation panel
2. Press [Menu SEL] softkey
3. Press [Page Down] key on the operation panel until you get to page 19/32 if machine is
type L520
4. Press [Page Down] key on the operation panel until you get to page 20/32 if machine is
type M2 or C
5. Set parameter “3445 SP245” for the spindle from 1 to 0 for L520 type
6. Set parameter “3440 SP240” for the spindle from 1 to 0 for M2 or C type
7. Power machine off to breaker
8. Wait 30 seconds, power machine on
9. Repeate steps II-A-1 through II-B-4
10. Set parameter “3445 SP245” for the spindle from 0 to 1 for L520 type
11. Set parameter “3440 SP240” for the spindle from 0 to 1 for M2 or C type
C. Execute PLG Automatic Correction
1. Press the [MDI] key on the operator panel
2. Enter “M3” for spindle 1 (main), or “M23” for spindle 2 (sub). Do not enter a speed
command (S1=xxxx/S2=xxxx)
3. Press [INPUT] key on operator panel
4. Press [CYCLE START] key on the operator panel
5. The spindle will rotate forward and then stop
6. Power off machine to the breaker
7. You can now power on and test operation of the spindle

Appendix
I. Un-synchronizing the Main Spindle and Guide Bushing
A. Entering Maintenance Mode 1. From the Position/Monitor Page,
1. Press the [Maintenance] hard key
2. Press the {I/F Diag} soft key
3. Press "1001" under Device
4. Cursor over to Mode and press "M"
5. Press [INPUT] hard key

B. Confirming "OS version"


1. Press {Menu SEL} soft key until "S/W List" is displayed
2. Press {S/W List} soft key
3. Notice the "OS" version, if older than 006-xxx, please proceed to Section C. below,
otherwise, move on to Section D.

C. Setting MC-STRCT parameter


1. Press the [Parameter] hard key
2. Press {Menu SEL} soft key until "MC-STRCT" is displayed
3. Press {SET} soft key
4. Cursor down to {Fixed Guide Bush Device A}  dashed box will surround selection
5. Press [INPUT] hard key
D. Disabling the Spindle Sync parameters 1. From the Parameter page, Press {Menu SEL}
until "Spindle" is displayed
1. Press {Spindle} soft key
2. Page down until parameter "3042 GBsp" is displayed
3. Note down your current values for parameter 3042 for both the spindle <1> and <5>
columns
4. 3042 for column <1> should have "1" and for column <5> should have "2"
5. Type in "0" under both columns sets
6. Press [INPUT] hard key, data should like:

7. Shut down the NC and main breaker


8. Turn on main breaker and NC
9. Done
*To reset back to synchronized, change parameters back to original settings/values
otherwise continue on to next steps to run main spindle and g/b independently
