Purpose: The purpose of this document is to give the service provider


troubleshooting information designed to expedite the diagnosis and service
process to modular/sectional level for Toshiba products.
Always pay close attention to lead dress and shielding, such as conductive
tape, when servicing the Toshiba product. Make sure these items are in
their original position before returning the product to your customer.

Entering the Service Mode
1. Press mute button twice on customer remote.

2. Press mute button again and hold it down.

MUTE 

3. While holding mute button down, press menu button on TV.

Service mode is for the purpose of adjusting electronic registers relating to


all operational aspects of audio and video in this product.
The small “S” in the upper right quadrant of the screen indicates that the
service mode has been entered.
In the upper left quadrant, the “Item” is the register to be adjusted. This
selection is made by pressing channel up or down on the customer remote.
Data is the register value. This adjustment is done by pressing volume Up
or Down on the customer remote. Value is displayed in a binary format.
To exit the service mode and record any changes made, simply turn the
unit off.

2011 Firmware Update for 42SL417U, 46SL417U, 52SL417U
The installation process is simple; however, please read all of the following instructions and notices prior to
installation. This software update is intended solely for use with the TOSHIBA Models indicated above.

Notice   (Read Prior to Beginning the Software Upgrade) 
The following events may interrupt the upgrade process and result in an inoperative unit.
1) DO NOT unplug the Power Cord during the software update procedure.
!  2) Avoid loss or interruption of power during the software update procedure.
3) DO NOT Press the power button on the unit during the software update procedure.
If you are experiencing problems or have further questions:
Customers should contact Toshiba Customer Service at 800-631-3811.
Toshiba Authorized Service Providers should contact Toshiba Technical Support Group.

Use the following procedure to update the Television software version: 
1) Place the TV receiver in the “On” position to verify operation. (any Channel or input is ok).

2) Turn the TV receiver off by removing AC power.

3) “Insert a USB Flash Drive with firmware” (previously copied onto the drive) into the uppermost
port on the side of the back marked USB 1 just above USB 2, Color Stream, and video inputs.

4) Reapply AC power. The unit will automatically begin the upgrade process.

5) DO NOT POWER OFF OR PRESS ANY KEY ON THE REMOTE CONTROL OR ON THE SET UNTIL AFTER
COMPLETION OF THE UPDATE!!! DO NOT REMOVE USB FLASH DRIVE UNTIL INSTRUCTED IN STEP 6!!!
                                                             
6) The firmware update is complete when the television powers on again. Now remove the USB drive.
Next, the initial setup process must be done again. This process is the same process used to program
and set up the unit when it is first put in service. (That is, language choice, time zone choice, input choice
and scan programming.)

7) Finally go to the system information screen to verify newly installed firmware version.
