TOPIC PROPOSAL

Title: “Financial Management Practices in San Nicolas, Batangas”

Statement of the problem:

This study aims to assess the financial management practices among the selected families in San
Nicolas, Batangas.

Specifically, it aims to answers the following questions.

1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:


1.1 Age;
1.2 Gender;
1.3 Educational Attainment;
1.4 Family Size; and
1.5 Monthly Income?
2. How may the financial management practices in selected families be assessed in terms of:
1.1 Savings;
1.2 Budgeting; and
1.3 Spending?
3. Is there any significant differences on the financial management practices when group according
to profile variables?
4. Based on findings, what recommendations may be proposed?

Theoretical Framework

The theoretical framework served as the foundation of the researchers in formulating the
structure of study. It outlines different theories regarding financial management practices.

Annamaria Lusardi (2008), stated that individuals need knowledge beyond the fundamental
financial concepts discussed above in order to make saving, spending, and budgeting decisions
competent. Additionally, the relationship between risk and return of money is the foundation to
strengthen individuals understanding. She noted that the basic knowledge is the objective of any
designed policy.
According to Thomas (2008), personal finance is the science of earning, budgeting and spending
money based on objectives and maximizing the wealth of the family with a view to generating adequate
returns, achieving, financial freedom and ensuring the happiness of the family. Personal finance deals
