Assessment 1 – Written or Oral Questions

Answer each question in as much detail as possible, considering your organisational

requirements for each one.
1. Determine the areas of diversity at your place of work and how well diversity
and inclusion has been made. You should also identify the opportunities and
barriers to inclusive engagement. (10 marks)

At my workplace (hospitality catering), we are lots of people from different cultures and social
backgrounds, age, gender, race, education, religion, political outlooks, status, etc. We can work
together in peach even we are from the different background because we try to understand each
other and think that different is the thing that challenges to learn. Diversity in workplace can help us
to increase productivity through sharing and learning of skills between diverse groups and increase
in productivity through flexible working arrangements. We can also have a wider service range
through a variety of skills and available work hours and increased ideas and creativity through a
variety of point of views and experiences as well. The opportunities to inclusive engagement are
such as:
 working together not against each other;
 Improved interaction and teamwork;
 sharing of experiences and skills;
 Positive reputation/organisational profile;
 Cultural and social understanding;
 increased work output through working together;

However, there also some barrier to inclusive engagement, for example:

 - Implementation of diversity and inclusion in the workplace policies and procedures
 - Communication/cultural challenges
 - Changes to current policy, procedures and working practices
 - ensuring effective management of diversity and inclusion in the workplace
 -resistance to change within the organisation
 - Successful integration of diversity within the workforce
 - allowing time for transition and change to take place.

2. Develop your work plans to include improvements to diversity and inclusive

engagement. Create a plan that can lead your team/workforce into better
practices and include the following:

My work plan is in form of daily task and also set goals and objectives.
Every staff need to follow:
- Greet customers;
-service food to customer;
-build rapport with customer;

I will conduct meetings and use the right approach and techniques for effective communications for
all of the needs of our workforce, and lead by example. I will use easy and simple work that all of
them can understand. Account for any cultural differences and for belief systems that vary to other
members of the workforce.

a. How gender, race, age, abilities, sexual orientation or other diverse groups can be included (5
marks)
We can include diverse groups in a company where everyone feels valued and respected and is able
to fully contribute, removing barriers to make sure everyone can fully participate in the workplace
and have equal access to opportunities.
Empowering people to contribute their skills and perspectives for the benefit of organisational
performance and business outcomes.

b. Relevant legislation, regulations, policy and procedures that impact upon diversity and inclusion

According to relevant legislation:

The Competition and Consumer Act 2010 replaced the Trade Practices 1974. It promotes fair
trading and competition for businesses.

EEO, which provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for
employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, colour,
religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual
orientation, gender identity and so on.

Australia's anti-discrimination law. In Australia, it is unlawful to discriminate based on a number of

protected attributes including age, disability, race, sex, intersex status, gender identity and sexual
orientation in certain areas of public life, including education and employment.

c. The management and communication methods that can assist your work plans and encourage
inclusion
I will try to make decision or take any ideas including all staff members, allow them to participate
in all activity in equally. I might conduct regular meetings to discuss within a team or we can also
send an email to communicate with another team member as well.

d. How and when feedback and review processes should be handed:

We might seek for any feedback and review a process monthly to measure our performance. The
way that I will use are discussed from the feedback during the meeting or I may also use a survey
questionnaire to gather an information as well.

3. What strategies and tools would you use at your place of work to ensure inclusive engagement is
made? (10 marks)

The strategy that I will use is to participate in the employee communication and respond as openly
and honestly as possible. Actively engage in the diversity effort. Consider becoming a mentor,
mentee, or part of a co-mentoring relationship. These activities require a commitment of time but
represent a valuable opportunity for personal and professional development.

Become culturally competent. Take the time to learn about different cultures, races, religions and
backgrounds represented by our colleagues. Ask our co-workers to share some of the customs and
practices associated with their cultures. Become familiar with diversity-related terms and, if we err,
apologize and ask for help. I will also encourage and motivate them to engagement with all
activities.
