Humanity Is Oblivious Of Me 6

INTRODUCTION

Every boy child is a burden to himself and the world. Firstly, he

tries to seek for acceptance in a world where it is believed that a
boy child has some congenital emotional and physical strength
bestowed on him and ends up with a mirage as a quick answer.

Secondly, the world sets some form of standards to keep, meet

up and maintain in order to wear the boy tag with ease. All these
factors have really done more harm than good upon the boy
child.

Opia-Enwemuche Maxwell Onyemaechi in his poem,

'Questions Begging For Answers,' x-rayed some anomalies in
the verses of the poem.

'...They said that tears are for the weak,

but how do I explain these pains.
Is there a different world for boys like me
where agony shake hands with perseverance?... '

He questioned the personality of a boy child who feels that the

world is oblivious of his world.

The street is where it all begins, and in order to help the boy child
live, Jaachi Anyatonwu in his piece, ‘For Boys Who Seek
Solace In Empty Pages,' admonishes the boy child to brace up
and never accept defeat. In his words,

'... i hope you find yourself

again, after reading this:
there's more to life
than sighs
than sores
than sorry stories
live, boy. LIVE!'
Humanity Is Oblivious Of Me 7

In this mini book of eight sizzling poems, which form part of the
forth coming books by the duo respectively, the issue of the boy
child was aptly captured; his pain, his agony and struggles.

May you who open up your heart to read this, find joy and
dispense same to one who needs it around.

QUESTIONS BEGGING FOR ANSWERS

Opia-Enwemuche Maxwell Onyemaechi

They said struggle is part of life,

but how can I explain suffering.
Is there a different God for the poor
who leaves him with a garment of poverty?

They said that tears are for the weak,

but how do I explain these pains.
Is there a different world for boys like me
where agony shake hands with perseverance?

They said boys are made of steel,

but how do I endure shame & remain still.
Is there a trophy for molestation
for a boy who have walked the valley of death?

There are questions waiting for answers

& answers awaiting more questions.
I am a boy child with deep emotions
& the truth about life communicates like a mirage.

FOR BOYS WHO SEEK SOLACE IN EMPTY PAGES

Jaachi Anyatonwu

it's been long since you resumed your endless stare

at this empty page

i know how it interprets the emptiness you feel.

i shall not refrain you from staring, for I too

am well versed in silence

i shall pen down your sighs for you

and scribble the words you'd never say

i shall reach down in your heart of hearts

and assign words to the shock that left you speechless

with flowery words, let me paint memories to hold on to

until the eyes of your mind begins to connect the dots of hope

and when your soul relaxes to read the flaws and the lapses,
may you find reason to try again

when your mind rejuvenates as you vow to run this jungle,

may your strength fail not

and when, if the simplicity of life leads you down the dark alley
of suicide, may you find lasting peace

but, i hope you find yourself

again, after reading this:
there's more to life
than sighs
than sores
than sorry stories

live, boy. LIVE!

FOR BOYS WHO GOT THE WRONG EDUCATION

Opia-Enwemuche Maxwell Onyemaechi

I stand on this street where lives become history

& tales of horrible exploits become stories.
On this street, boys were trained on how to survive & live above
the law,
On this street, boys have been burnt alive for crimes they look
like but are not friends to them,
On this street, value is nothing except in vices,
On this street, respect is not by age, but by the command of
followers,
On this street, the quality of life is a mirage evaporating like
morning dew,
On this street, boys get the wrong education,
On this street, boys become steel & the ills of societal actions
come alive,
On this street, a walking time bomb is born &
On this street we become our worst enemies.

FOR BOYS WHO LIVE IN FANTASIA

Jaachi Anyatonwu

I had the wholesome privilege of writing ‘Sabrina Episodes’//

while she was still just a figment of my imagination // and I hadn’t
read such a brilliant and beautiful // emotionally-charged love
story in so long // I formed the main character // Sabrina // from
handpicked beautiful qualities of my exes/ and the mental picture
of my dream lady // It’s a deep exploration into intentional love //
scandalous public display of affection // dangerously terrific
passion // and // mesmerizing hangover that accompanies
drinking a magical keg of intoxicating romance // Sometimes //
while I make up those stories // I’ll be teary-eyed at the end //
because matter of fact // she exists not in the realm of reality/ But
I have become attached to Sabrina // the imagination of her //
and I’ll be better for it // to hold on to those sweet stories // and
perhaps hinge the wings of my hope on her ever-reliable
shoulders of intentionality // durability // surreality // and perhaps
// the sweet surprise of reality.

It’s okay to live in fantasia, boy // but // don’t stay too long.

HUMANITY IS OBLIVIOUS OF ME
Opia-Enwemuche Maxwell Onyemaechi

I am only but a statistic here

who strive to become relevant
My body is made of broken bones
for I carry the weight of the society.

I've been branded a super human

who must shoulder responsibilities
& wear strength & smile on my skin
without taking any life lessons.

Humanity speaks about my innate strength

& no one speaks about my death.
Humanity brands me as a steel,
but labels me with evil names.

I am a boy child,
who seeks attention,
who desires care,
who needs freedom
from societal shackles of pain
because humanity is oblivious of me.
Humanity Is Oblivious Of Me 13

HUMANITY IS OBLIVIOUS OF ME
Jaachi Anyatonwu

It’s sunrise, I stand here on the hill of mountainous expectations

staring out at what should be humanity. They know I am here,
but do not see me with the prism of humanity.

the sun is setting, a fine blend of red and yellow rays stretches
unevenly across the sky, an exact description of how humanity
spread stereotypes across my blue sky, casting golden light out
across gullible minds.

I am swept into a world of manly expectations

Of strong arms and hardened heart
Of concealed tears and deep sighs
Of baritone and beer
Of biceps and bowties

None of freedom of expression of emotions

None of soprano and catwalks
None of bright pink and pouts
None of long hairs and no beard

So, I swirl around in boxed definition of who they want me to be

Pleasing and imploding
Drowning depression in bottles of beer
Manning up when I should boy down in tears

It feels like an entrapment, in which I am bound mind and hand;

Humanity, oblivious of who I am,
Oblivious of my actions, inactions, reactions.
Oblivious of my enamoured desires.
Oblivious of the fact that, I too, collide with swinging moods of
human nature and habits…and when I begin to fade, my life
becoming worthless, stones shall be heaped over my carcass,
beside my father, who like his father, were stones uncracked by
conditions and convictions harsh.

MY NEW NAME IS PAIN

Opia-Enwemuche Maxwell Onyemaechi

My world is full of neglect,

but the mirror around me
expects nothing, but a smile.

There's a dark valley living in me

& everyday feeds it with pain.

My world is a puzzle
whose pieces are missing–
they're gone with the whirlwind
–leaving me to ask about purpose.

I've lived a life without gain

& my new name is now pain.
I've been through fire,
but they tell my story like folktales & satire.

I am a boy child
& the world must listen to my story.

There’s more to being a poet than just writing

poems. Poets are an odd, beautiful breed.
Constantly observant and obsessed by details,

Being a poet feels like having two personalities

Poems also tend to suggest things beyond what
