Rules for Naming Teach Pendant Programs

1. Must begin with a letter, not a space or a number

2. Can be up to 36 characters long (after V7.5)

3. Can contain no spaces, but __ underscore can be used

a. Use a good descriptive and unique name so the TPP can be easily located
on the select screen.

b. use weldment description or part number in the name: example:

MAINFRAME_P54123_LEFT_SIDE_A

c. show work station designation in the name (i.e. "A" for Side A)

1. After powering up the robot, the following screen will appear:

2. Press the SELECT key. This screen will appear:

3. Press the NEXT key until CREATE appears at F2. Press

F2-CREATE.

4. After press F2-CREATE, this screen appears:

5. Using the down cursor, move the cursor over Upper Case in
the box. The F1 – F5 keys will now allow you to type in a
TPP name.

6. Type in the TPP name using the F1 – F5 keys.

7. Press ENTER. This screen appears:

8. This is the Program Detail screen. From this screen you

can add a Comment to a TPP, set the Group Mask, and
enable or disable Write Protect..

Press F1-END.

9. This is your new Teach Pendent Program. It contains 1

line: [End]:

You have now named a Teach Pendent Program.

Lab Exercise 3 - Creating a Program Name

1. Power-up robot, if necessary. Pick up teach pendant, hold live-man in, turn teach
pendant ON, Utilities screen should be displayed, [RESET] any errors displayed
at top of screen.

2. Under the display, locate the rectangle with 3 keys and the word TEACH above it.
Press [SELECT] key. A listing of all programs in robot memory now appears, in
alphabetical order.

3. Press [F2 CREATE] key, title screen now appears. Cursor down to line which
reads Upper case, alphabet now appears at F1-F5 keys. Call this program: “B03”.
A program name must always start with at least 1 letter, can have numbers in it,
can be up to 36 columns long, and cannot have any spaces or punctuation marks in
it.

LAB EXERCISE 3 – CREATE A PROGRAM NAME

4. Locate F-key which contains first letter of program name, F1 in this case, and
repeatedly hit until desired letter appears in brackets.

5. Using right arrow cursor key, cursor to the right 1 space. Locate F key which
contains next letter and hit repeatedly until second letter appears in bracket then
cursor to the right 1 column. Repeat this procedure until full name is in brackets. If
a wrong letter is inserted into the bracket, cursor 1 space to the right of it and press
[BACKSPACE] key on teach pendant to clear. Resume keying in letters.

4. After name is inserted into bracket; press [ENTER] key. Cursor now moves down
to End statement. If an alarm “Program name is null” appears, it means that the
Enter key was pressed before any letters were keyed in for a name.

If an alarm “Program already exists” appears, it means that there is already a

program by that name in the robot’s memory. You cannot have 2 programs with the
same name.

If either alarm appears, press the [PREV] key to move the curser back into the
brackets, curser to line Upper case, and correct the mistake.

5. Press [F3 EDIT] key and blank program screen will appear.

NOTE: For a robotic cell containing servo auxiliary axes:

Press the [ F2 DETAIL ] key instead; set Group Mask as desired then press
[ F1 END ].

Verify correct program name appears at upper, left blue bar with End statement
below.
