Discussion Choices:

1. The Seven Basic plots, as defined by Christopher Booker are very clearly defined
and structured. Explain a movie/story that deviates from the standard seven
basic plot types. Perhaps discuss an example of a movie/story that combines
more than one plot choice? Can you suggest a plot type (with an example) other
than the seven basics?

2. The Seven Basic Plots, as defined by Christopher Booker, seem to limit "why we
tell stories."  There is controversy surrounding his analysis that perhaps there are
no "new" or original stories. Can a story with a similar plot to an already existing
story be considered “original”? Why or why not?

Learning Journal: Tell me what you know about Shakespeare and his works. Even
if you are not sure if it is correct, write what you have heard or experienced of
Shakespeare. Have you ever read anything by him? Seen any movies based on his
work? Heard references to his lines? What comes to mind at the thought of
“Shakespeare?”

Set a GOAL for our Unit on the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet: What would you like to

learn about, improve your skills with, or be able to do before moving on to our next unit?
