PDMSC-51-14_03-E Sheet 1 of 36
PD METER PROCEDURE
MOD. 51-14 (SINGLE CASE VERSION)
1. PD METER PRELIMINARY CHECKING
1) Unscrew the Outer Cover socket head screw and remove the Outer Cover
2) Check if the timing gears can rotate freely without unscrewing the rear cover socket head screws
(valid for models 12, 22, 53, 13, 14 and 24 only since on the models 51 and 11 the socket head
screws of the outer cover fix also the rear cover)

MOD. 51-14 (SINGLE CASE VERSION)
3) If the timing gear cannot rotate freely, unscrew the rear cover socket head screws and remove the rear
cover.
ATTENTION: Before unscrew the rear cover socket head make a sign on the position of the timing gear
immediately before removing of the rear cover for an easily reassembling of the meter (see picture 3)

Note: to help the operator in removing the rear cover the threaded holes and the previously
dismounted socket head screws can be used (see picture 4)
ATTENTION: Do not dismount timing gears in this phase to avoid losing synchronism

surface, rotors’ shaft surface and remove eventual solid particles inside the meter
ATTENTION: If you need to replace the front bearing do not follow item 6 and go to item 9
6) If all is ok, mount again the rear cover (see item 3) paying attention to the rear cover pins (see picture 6),
to the coupling between rotors shaft and magnetic transmission (see pictures 8 and 9) and to the number
engraved on rear cover and outer body (see picture 10)

38) Mount rear cover (see item 6), put on the rotor shaft one timing gear without screwing relevant nut and
rotate by hand the rotor checking that it doesn’t touch with the body through a thickness gauge (0,1 mm)
39) Remove the timing gear, the rear cover, the first rotor and put it the second one only following items 37
and 38 for second rotor, too

6. PD METER DISMOUNTING: TIMING GEAR REPLACEMENT
Note: when replacing rotors the front cover must be mounted (see item 20) if previously dismounted
for bearing replacement
If you need to replace the timing gears or simply dismount timing gears for bearing or rotors replacement, you
need to synchronize the meter again
43) Remove the spool pipe (see item 34) if not previously removed
44) Remove the outer cover (see item 1) if not previously removed
45) Remove the old timing gears (see items 25, 26 and 27) if not previously removed
46) Mount the first timing gear (paying attention to the couple correctly the conic shaft with the conic timing
gear) and fix relevant stop nut. In order to fix stop nut properly simply block the rotor with a bar before
screwing the same

47) Mount the second timing gear. At the same time you have to block the rotor on which has been already
installed the first timing gear with a bar, put the thickness gauge (0,1 mm) between the rotors and press by
hand “second” rotor on the first rotor on which first timing gear was installed while screwing lock nut of

thickness gauge
m - f:\archivio\documenti di origine interna\pdmsc-51-14_03-e pd meter maintenance procedure mod 51-14.doc
49) In case rotors are not synchronized correctly, so rotors cannot rotate freely, repeat operation under items
47 and 48 changing thickness of the thickness gauge
