Description
Nitcbord PVA isa mut-purpose PVA adhesive hased on
polymerised resins ands white, non-toxie, water based
‘omuleion of medium viecesity which drios to 2 transparent film.

Application
‘Surface propar:
‘Surfaces must be sound anc thoroughly cleaned before Nitebond,
PUA 's appliec. Al loose particles, old mortar, laitence, dirt,
Paint etc, musi be removes by brushing with a stffwire Drush,
or ather suitable means. Fungi cr Algae should be scoured
away using Fos‘oz Fungicidal Wash end then washed with
wator. Timber and composition boarding must bo dry and iro.
from wax, plish and pain etc, al traces of cil and grease must,
be removed with Fostor Chemical Degreaser (see seperate
leatot) or another suitable degreasing agent.
On veriical surfaces, where all the paint canrol be removed,
itis advisadle ‘o peck-hammer, excapt where gypsum plasters,
are to be apperd. This ensures @ bond between Nitovond PVA,
and the structure, and provante fal duo to lack of adhasion,
between the paint fim and the substrate
Sealing porous surfaces.
Porous surfaces should be saaled with a solution af part
Niobond PVA to 15 paits cean water, Where surface porosity
is vary high & may be necessary t increase the concentration,
to 1 part Nitobond PVA to 10 parts water. Breeze, ‘oam, slag
‘and ether lightweight Luzding blocks ere exceptionally absorbant
and may require welting down before sealing
Specific applications
4. As a general adhesive

2. As a plaster bonding agent for gypsum,
lightweight gypsum and anhydrous plasters.
Seal es required and prime with solution of # pert
Nilabond PVA to t part water and allow to becerne tecky.

normal way.
For heavier renderings and comenitious toppings.
‘Seal and prime as above ard the prepare a key coat be
mixing + part ordinary Poriand cement, 1 part clean
washed sharp sand, gauged to a sf consistency wit
1 pact Nitobond PVA to 3 perta clean water. Apply this
{othe tacky priming coal to @ average thickness of 6 mm
(14 inch) and stipote with sti rush, or ctherwse roughen
surface to proviele a goed mechanical key.
Allow to harden and dry throughly Test for adhesion
before applying rendering.
For plastering onto glazed tes
Toensure 2 salisfactory bond, 2 mecharical key should
be provided by light peck hammering befere sealing,
priming and plasiering as above.
3. For repairs to concrete
Prepare and seal surface as required, apply préving coat
‘of 1 part Niloband PYA 10 1 part water an allow io 6.
bozome tacky. Using the same sand or fine aggregate
asin the concrete to be repaired, prepare a stif cement’
sand mix in the prepartiors 1:2 (orleaner) gauged wih
“part Nitobond PVA to 3 parts clean water.
Compact fimly and lovel out with minimum trowelling.
For repairs to natural or reconstructed stone
Prepare and seal surfaze as required, apply priving coat

cement with original aggregate in 2s lean a mix as
possible, 2g. 1:6 (or leaner) concictont with trongth
requirements’, gauged with 1 part Nifosond PVA to 3
parts clean water
Compact firly and level out wth rinimum rovteting,
“NB: Resurfacirg does not normally call fr hich stenghts.
Colours can be matched by adding pigments to the mix.
Where high strengths are required, Fosroc should be
consulted for advice on alternative materials.
5. For repairs to concrate and granolithie floors
Prepare and seal surface as required. Apply priming coat
of 1 par Nitoband PVA to 1 part water. Brush wel into
allctevices and allow to became tacky. The priving coat
must never be alowed ta dry. tit does, re-prime and
proceed oniy when tacky.

Prepare @ mix of 1 pait ordinary Porland cement, 25
parls clean wahed sharp eand, gaugod to a stif consis:
fency with 1 part Nilobond PNA to 3 parts clean water.
Then proceed as forthe pasticuler application as below.
Repairing cracks and holes in cementiticus flocrs
Place mix on tacky priming coat, compact fmly end level
out oa smooth fish with minimum trowelling,
Deeo tholes and craks should be fled wth onary concrete
‘onto the tacky priming coat to within mm (1/4 inch)
of the surtace and topped off to above spectication whist
‘ordinary concrete ills stil green.
Resurfacing of worn concrete and granolithic floors
Place miy ante tacky sealing coat and trowel nto surtace
offlocring using existing exposed aggregate as level, 20
replacing mortarlost by wear. Treat deep indentations as
for cracks and notes, (see above.)
Levelling of worn stair treads
Place mix on tacky priming coat, compact fly and level
out (oa smooth frist wilh minimum towelting

. As bonding agent for tiles, wood block, cark,
lino and acoustic tiles
Use Nilobond PVA es a general adhesive. Ifthe surface is
uneven, the adhesive shoul be jiled as described below
Under ‘Polystyrene Tiles
Ceramic. concrete, aay. clay and terrazzo tiles Seal with
a sclulion of 1 part Nitobond PYA to 5 paris water, brush
well nto the eurface and allow ia dry.
Before bedding ties in sand and emert, give the floor and
base of tiles a further coat of 3 paris Nitobond PVA to 1
part water, Whilst thisis til wet or tacky, apply sané end
‘cement bedding to base and bed the tls.
Polyetyrane tiles, placter board and acoustic boar
Prepere and seal the surface as required. Then using a
suitable filer, 1 as plaster, comont, fne sand ar savidust,
make a paste with a Soluvon of 1 part Ntlbond PYA to 1
part water. Apply this mixture aa an adhesive coat lo the
‘les and surface to be bonded,
For honding granolithic toppings to cub-
concrete
Prepare surface and app'ya priming coat of 1 pan Nitcbond
PVA to 1 part weter. Brush well inte all eevizes and allows
fo bacame tacky. The priming coat must nevor be slowed

Prepare key coat corsisting of 1 part ordinary Portland
cement in 1 part clean sharp sand gauged toa stif

8. For dust-prooting floor screeds and friable
concrete flooring
Anply 2 coats of solution of 1 pert Nitobond PVA with 5
pars water, allowing frst coat to cry before applying. second
coat.
9. Asa primer for overcoating bitumen with oil
based paints
Coat the bitumen with a sclution of 1 Nitobord PUA to 4
par water as an ani-bleed priming coat suitable for most
l-baeed paint
Limitations
Nitotond PVA shauld nat be used when itwill be in continuous
contact with water,
Nitotond PVA shold be protecied from res! and should not be
sed in temperatures below 7°C (45°F).
Nitotond PVA se's by evaneration and should therefore be
protected from moisture during the setting period. Do not use,
putef deorsin the rain

curing
In uncured Nitoaand PVA martar surfaces are exposed te
coxceptionally severe drying cendiions ag. strong winds,
excessive sunsitin, clase proximity io neat scurces etc. he
surface may be lightly dampened or protected by covering
with damp sacking, polythene sheeting ele. for 24 hours.
Cleaning
Brushes and foole should be cleaned with water
immediately ater use.
