The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Stephen Chbosky
The book I recently read is called The Perks of Being a Wallflower by author
Stephen Chbosky. The genre of the book is an epistolary novel. The essence of
this genre is that the story is told through the letters of the protagonist.
To be honest, I think the storytelling style is the only feature of this novel,
because the rest is pretty commonplace and predictable. Charlie is a depressed
teenager visiting a psychologist following the death of his aunt Helen and best
friend Michael, has no friends and has problems with his family. During the
story, Charlie makes friends Patrick and Sam, and also gets closer to the new
literature teacher. Charlie has a girlfriend named Mary Elizabeth, but,
unfortunately, he cannot forget Sam. In the end, everything falls into place and
Charlie finally understands what was the reason for his depression.
To cut a long story short, I don't really like these teenage books, because most of
them have the same plot. Undoubtedly, all of these stories raise important issues
such as suicide, mental health problems, first love, friendship, violence, and so
on. Therefore, I think that it is useful for teenagers to read this book in order to
understand that there is always a way out of any situation and there are people
who are ready to help and support you.

“Sam sat down and started laughing. Patrick started laughing. I started
laughing. And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”

that moment that I really did love her.”

“You can’t just sit there and put everybody’s lives ahead of yours and think that
counts as love.”

thousand years. Or just not exist. Or just not be aware that you do exist”

walk up to at a football game even though you were three years younger and not
popular”
