Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

In this lesson, students will create a character analysis on one character from our past book unit, The
Hunger Games. This assignment will be conducted on Padlet which is an interactive website where
students can “post” a sticky note and share their thoughts with their peers. This lesson is designed for
all students as it is visual, interactive, and age friendly. Students can easily engage with this
assignment as it allows them to engage and express with an online class discussion. This lesson is also
designed to allow students to represent the topic of the assignment in their own way and their own
words.

Lesson idea implementation:

Teacher: “Ok class we are going to be doing a closing Padlet for our book unit. Padlet is an
interactive bulletin board for you guys to post your thoughts and feelings about a topic. This Padlet
assignment will be based around a character analysis from the book. You will choose a character
from the book and summarize their story and actions throughout the book. Just summarize the huge
main points. Then I want you to explain why you chose the character that you did.”

Students will log onto their Padlet that the teacher has presented up on the board. They will use a link
on their Canvas Profiles that takes them directly to the link. Students will create their own sticky note
thoughts about their favorite character from the book and they will include the big main points from
their story on their Padlet post. Students will also have to include why they chose the character that
they did.

This final project will be assessed for completion as students have worked very hard throughout this
unit and this Padlet assignment is from their own personal thoughts and feelings from a character in
the book. This final product could be differentiate in terms of physical engagement. Students could
write down their summary and thoughts about their character if needed. Or they could draw the
character’s story in needed as well. This lesson will be concluded when all students submit their
Padlet posts and they are all accounted for.

Reflective Practice:
I think that this activity will impact student learning in terms of introducing a newer software that can
be used for teachers and for students in a classroom setting. I designed this lesson to be at the end of a
book unit therefore I do not think that this assignment could be further extended; however, the
software, Padlet, could be extended into further lessons and become more involved with other content
throughout this semester.
