My Academic Achievement

My academic achievement that I’m most proud of is winning both “Junior Top Film
Maker” and “Senior Top Film Maker” at our school.
Description:
These awards are little wooden plaques given away by Mr. Cawdell during the Eagle
Eye Studios awards. Which is essentially a video award show put on by Mr. Cawdell
that showcases the top films made by students in the year. “Top Film Maker” means
you’ve created the best films overall for the whole year. My friends and I have been
lucky enough to win this award 3 years in a row. 2018, 2019, 2020, and maybe 2021 if
we’re lucky this year!
Personal Relevancy:
Winning this award was so meaningful to me because my friends and I put in so much
effort into our films. We will do 12-hour film days, sunrise to sunset. We buy lots of
props and spend countless hours editing everything so it’s perfect. This award just
shows that all of our hard work paid off. Plus when I was applying for film school, it
helped to put down that I had won these awards on my application.
Skill Development:
I’ve learned many skills from this experience. Acting, screenwriting, cinematography,
boom mic, sound scoring, and editing. But the most important transferable skills I’ve
learned is working in a team. Which is essential in everyday life. You have to be able to
communicate and work in a team for hours during filming. So, this experience will
benefit me in the future.
Self-Awareness:
I’ve learned that I have incredible stamina from all of our long film days, pushing through
even when I’m hungry and exhausted. But something I definitely need to improve on is
overthinking. When creating our projects, I overthink the little stuff too much and it can
become a controlling. The biggest thing I’ve gotten out of this though, is that I want to
make this into a future career.
Future Connections:
Taking video class and winning this award has prepared me for when I attend film
school after I graduate. I will take all these skills and apply them to the new work I
create. Plus, after I complete film school, I can use these skills when I start my career in
the film industry.
