Pros: you get to be your own boss/make your own schedule, meet
lots of new people and network, full creative control
Cons: you’re responsible for everything, paychecks will not be
steady, pressure to meet deadlines
Job Duties:
- Employ a whole production staff, directors, editors, etc.
- Cast actors
- Assist directors
- Create schedules
- Secure financing
- Find scripts and novels to adapt into movies
Salary Range: $66,121 to $750,000 (however if very successful
could be millions)
Future Outlook: Employment for producers is projected to grow by 10
percent throughout the next 10 years. British Columbia is a good hub
to work in because Netflix keeps opening studios in the lower
mainland.
Day In The Life:
- Coordinate activities for writers, directors, manage other
things around set
- Check up on post-production editing to make sure things are
turning out how they were imagined
- Create budget and financing for future productions
Advancement Opportunities:
The more projects you work on will grow your reputation, and once
your name is out there you will get the opportunity to work on bigger
budget projects. This will attract lots of publicity. There’s a chance
you could be making millions per film.

Pros: you can go out and experience life/travel in order to get
inspiration for your writing, doesn’t cost you a lot of money, you can
write even in old age
Cons: huge time commitment, writers block, lots of rejection of your
work

- Add visuals, plot, and dialogue
- Pitch your screenplay ideas to film producers
Salary Range: Scripts sell anywhere from $72,600-$136,000
(millions if you’re successful)
Future Outlook: Jobs for screenwriters are increasing, but quite

Day In The Life: lots of freedom, mostly getting up to write at absurd
hours of the day because sometimes you write your best stuff at
