Assignment Brief and Guidance

The Creative industries are always changing; in response to development in technology, social
change and cultural conditions. These, in turn, have an effect on the professions and roles that
are required within the industries. Through this unit, you will explore the development of the
professions within the creative industries and the roles that make up those professions.

Developing an awareness of the breadth of the industry; and the opportunities and challenges
within, is a key skill for those entering the field. Evaluating one’s own aims and ambitions, in relation
to the roles within the industry, allows for planning and growth toward a desired future.

As a Creative practitioner it’s important to schedule time, both to reflect and plan for personal
development needs. This can help those working in creative industries to find inspiration and
innovate, as well as prepare for external factors, such as keeping up with trends and new
developments in their specialist field. The aim of this unit is for students to begin to define areas
for personal professional development, in the context of a growing awareness of the broad scope
of the creative industries.

This assignment is all about you. Let’s begin with congratulations; you have battled your way
through to become a Creative professional and start your journey. You must first understand what
you are getting yourself into. Creativity is a born talent? No, it is not. It is a skill that you can learn
and develop in order to become a Creative professional. However, it usually requires a high level
of commitment to what you will be learning from this study block to the next few years. The biggest
question to ask ourselves is whether we have the discipline to reflect and pursue a career in the
Creative industries, where the real magic happens.

Your journey focuses on two critical aspects: how to get into the creative industry and what to do
once you're there. So, why are you here? It's all about love. You've come because you want to make
a living doing what you love. This means you're prepared to accept both praise and criticism, as
well as unrelenting depression when an idea you thought was brilliant turns out to be a complete
flop when you try to develop it. But it may not always be love; if you suppose it isn't love but still
want it, be prepared for that as well.

What you submit for your assignment can be practiced by you to help you advance in your career.
This is your life we’re talking about, so make it count. In this assignment, you will be compiling
information that would be focused towards planning and creating your own Creative career that
could help you kick-start your journey.

You must conduct research on the Creative industry focusing on your Career path, which must
include the range of roles and the required skills. You must create your career plan and supportive
information such as personal skills audit, personal development plan, etc.
