What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with
a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an
answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

How can I create a business that allows me to showcase my talents?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I chose this inquiry question because I would like to make a business creating art for small businesses, or
for personal use. So, it would be making commissions. I’ve always dreamed of making designs for t-shirts
or something similar, and I would like those designs to be put to good use. I think it would be cool to make
logos for small businesses trying to start one. I just have lots of ideas, and I want a creative outlet for that.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

Graphic design elective in this school (grade 9-12)

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?.

I just want to have a small business on the side. This would be my side hustle. Making design
commissions. I know that I can make something good because I know how to make designs in Illustrator or
Photoshop. And I can expand my knowledge by watching Youtube tutorials.

“I can persevere and understand that failure can be productive.” I know that there will be times where my
designs won’t work, and I’d have to find a different way that I can execute that design to make it look the
way the customer wants it to be.

I will be making a powerpoint showcasing my online shop and what I made.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

So, my capstone will be the entrepreneur focus, and I would like to make a business making a design
service. I would like to market my business for small businesses who need logos or labels or for personal
use such as logos, banners, or thumbnails for Youtube. My target audience would range from high school
students wanting to start a Youtube channel, or adults who need a simple logo for their home business or
product.
I would have to research how I can promote or sell my services. Like where can I set up an online shop?
How do I make people want to ask for commissions?
I don’t expect to make money from this. I don’t expect people to pay me unless they want to. I won’t be
offended if they don’t want to pay me. I expect to help at least one or two people or businesses during my
capstone. I will be doing research on what techniques I can use to make logos or designs by searching it
up on Youtube or Google. My products will be my designs. I will need to work closely with the customers
that will need my service so that I can get the results that they would want.

My first goal would be making a social media account that promotes my business. Possibly Facebook
marketplace and Instagram. Then I should work on making some simple designs / post old designs to
showcase my work that I can do. Because I have my friend’s mom’s small business to work on, that would
be the first thing that I will be working on (if this gets approved that is).

During my first commission, I plan to make a label for her peanut snack business. This includes making the

 logo for the label and the label itself.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

I’ll need to use my laptop to make designs at home. If it’s possible during b block, I could go down to the
graphic design room to use the computers because Mac is better at handling photoshop and illustrator.

To learn about how to use certain techniques to make designs on illustrator or photoshop, I can use
Adobe because their tutorials are free, and there are Youtubers who make good video tutorials.

Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you need to

help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your plan to access
the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

I would like Mr. Zwiers to be my mentor because I’ve had him as a teacher for the last 2 years, and I’d like
to get advice from him. Also, because I want to be able to work in his class to make my designs and get
feedback from him fast.

I could possibly have my friend who is very good at art to be my mentor, because she knows more about
art and design a bit more than me. And I could ask her for guidance and feedback on my designs.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

If I can’t go to the graphic design room during b block, I’d have to use lots of free trials from illustrator or
photoshop, meaning I’d have to make a bunch of fake emails just to get free trials. I’d want to try and not
subscribe to photoshop or illustrator because it’s just too expensive. And I wouldn’t want to download an
illegal version either because I don’t want a virus.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about your project
that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

I’d like to get permission to work in the graphic design room during careers so that I could use Illustrator

 and Photoshop.
I want to know if I can use my student account for illustrator/photoshop services on my personal device.
