What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that connects with
a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot just google an
answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.
My inquiry question is:

How experiencing entrepreneurship in high school will improve one’s skill as an entrepreneur for the future?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

Since I was young, becoming an entrepreneur has been my dream. I chose an entrepreneur strand since I
thought experiencing it through a project will be helpful for my future as an entrepreneur. To prepare for my
future, I want to experience the actual jobs of my future occupation during high school. In addition, I want to
investigate how having an experience early in high school will help me in the future. Since I like crafting, I
wanted to connect my passion together.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

I was interested in business since I was young and tried various activities related to entrepreneurship. In
grade 11, I participated in the JABC business program. For the program, we founded the company and
produced products. During the program, our team learned how to run the business in real life and learned
the process of coming up with the product. As a trial and hobby, I also sold some bracelets that I made on
the street in Fort Langley and at the school market day for the club activity.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does this
inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

Dentistry is a type of entrepreneurship since dentists need to organize the tools, employment, and
communication services for the patient. They also need to advertise their center. Eventually, I would like to
do business related to dentistry. My inquiry question is ‘how does experiencing entrepreneurship in high
school will improve one’s skill as an entrepreneur for the future?’. Business can be connected into many
different areas including dentistry. Experiencing the skills required for entrepreneurship, it will prepare me
for the different areas of the future.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core competencies will
be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

My strength is self-determination and an area to improve is self-regulation.These competencies connect to

the project. My self-determination was utilized for my project. I first asked my mentor for her help and
managed the schedule when she is able to help me. I spared and scheduled my time to make enough
products and managed my own Instagram account and gained followers for advertisement. Whenever I
have questions, I asked those to my mentors so that I can bring the best out of my project eliminating the
possibility of making mistakes. I was determined to sell products to people around me first so I was able to
gain more customers through the recommendations of people who already bought my product. I took my
own responsibility for making products, and planning the way of marketing and selling and dealt with some
difficulties during the project. In addition, I was able to improve my self-regulation since when there was a
situation when I needed to finish making a planned number of products, I forced myself to finish making
them. Since my products needed to be made by using beads, it tested my patience when the beads
disappeared on the floor. It sometimes made me think to stop making it during the process. However, I
gained the mindset of not giving up and I was able to make a planned number of bracelets. In addition,
when I needed to advertise customers to buy my products, I sometimes felt embarrassed. However, I did
not express my emotion and tried to be looked optimistic about what I am doing. I am proud of figuring out
that I already possess self-determination and self-regulation which encourages me to stand out with those
competencies when I need to apply them. Whenever I need to be the one who chooses my path and deals
with a challenge that requires patience, I would not hesitate to apply my core competencies. In addition, I
learned many important skills as an entrepreneur by going through the process. As a result, in the future, if
I need to interact with customers and face some situations where I need to preserve my emotion, it would
apply my self-regulation.

Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to present your
project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once completed. You may use a
combination of mediums.
o Electronic portfolio: Prezi or PPT
o Physical portfolio
1
o Website
o imovie presentation
o YouTube channel

I would use the PPT to show the process of making beaded jewelry, selling them and how the money from
the project was used. I would take the picture of each process and show it in chronological order. In
addition, I would create an Instagram account to post the beaded jewelry I had made and will use it for both
marketing and documentation.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

The capstone project that I am working on is making beaded jewelry and making profits from it by selling
them. I searched for designs of trendy beaded jewelry that I can make and that people will buy. I bought
materials from stores in Granvil Island in Vancouver, Fort Langley and Amazon which have cheaper
products compared to others. Once I gained the materials and learned how to make jewelry by watching
videos, especially on Youtube, I started to make products at my house; simple bracelets took 20~30
minutes to make and complicated ones such as flower shape bracelets took around an hour to make one.
While I was making I took pictures and videos of me making it and my products so that I could upload them
on my Instagram account for advertisement. I also created a survey asking people’s opinions on the price;
the options were choosing between $4, $5, $6 or other for one bracelet and most people chose $5. I
contacted my mentor through email once a week and learned about essential elements of the business.
For instance, I learned about pricing and how to make a budget from excel to record the cost of materials
and come up with a minimum price for products. My mentor also taught me about proper discounts on
prices to keep customers. After I made some products and priced them according to the minimum cost, I
began to sell them to people through my Instagram accounts. I took a picture of their reaction with their
permission as well; even though I tried to sell a product on the street, due to the cold weather, not many
people passed by and spent their time looking at the table. My other plan was to sell my products at the
school market but I was not able to manage the time and sell my products when the club market was
happening since I did not know that it would take place. At the end of the project, I will gather the recording
of my process for the presentation and will also find a meaningful way of using my profits such as
donations.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

To complete this project, I need to have knowledge in making beaded jewelry, a sense of coming up with
a trendy design and crafting skills. For the resources, I need materials for beading such as string, beads,
glue, tools, etc. I will watch the video and come up with a list of materials people use. In addition, I will
practice making so that I can make jewelry quickly without looking at videos.
2
Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will you need to
help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you? What is your plan to access
the mentorship/community connections necessary for this project?

To complete the project, I need a mentor whose major is related to business and who has experience in
selling handmade products. My mentor will suggest to me the way of marketing, places to sell products,
and how to come up with the price of products. Mentor will guide me and do brief checking in with me to
make sure that I am on the right track. I would connect to a person who was my mentor for the JABC
business program from grade 11.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

The number of beaded bracelets that can be made by one person might be the quantity limitation. In
addition, there might not be many people who want to buy beaded jewelry and a place to sell them. If the
materials are no longer found, it might affect the period and shortage of making jewelry.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about your project
that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

I need to consider how to act when I face customers and the manner of selling to make customers buy
my products. I will also need to consider the setting of jewelry when selling them to attract customers and
how to use profits at the end of the project. In addition, finding a suitable price is also important.

References: Provide a literature review of 5-10 PEER REVIEWED ACADEMIC references: research,
videos, etc. that offer some preliminary research you have done for your project that shows you are able
to access the key information that you will need to be able to complete this project/work. Your list should
be written using correct APA formatting.
