Proposed title for my project: Makeup Videos

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that
you cannot just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.

My inquiry question is:

How can I improve my own skills and knowledge on makeup by teaching others with my own?

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are
choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry
connect to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I am choosing makeup as my major area to focus on because I’ve always had a passion for
makeup since I was a young child. Throughout the years of watching and reading tutorials, I
have picked up a lot of skills from it. As I’m transitioning to adulthood, I need to be more aware
of my spending while also continuing my passion.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this

area of inquiry?
I have experience from doing my own and some of my friends makeup. I always advise my
friends and give them tips and tricks on how to do their own makeup. Alot of them give me
feedback and tell me that they work and sometimes it doesn't.

Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What
connections does this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals?

I am looking forward to getting into nursing. From what I've heard nursing could be very
stressful. Since makeup is a form of self-care, it will be one thing that would help me relieve
stress through difficult times. I think that with doing makeup it really helps with my well-being
whether it be mentally and physically.

I have my strengths towards makeup and I have learned skills that aren't easy for people as I've
taken the time to watch, learn and practice.

When something doesn't go as planned, I try to outlook the mistake and make it into something
that will fit into it.

This whole project is mainly focused on my knowledge and what I've learned and sharing it to
help other people in a way that I myself found useful a

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what
will you research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced
at the end of this project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your
proposal.

For my project I have chosen to do makeup videos which include step by step tutorials,
product recommendations and product dupes to save money. I have done some research about
makeup in general and how it affects a person in everyday life. As it shows on my literature
review, there are lots of positive outcome that come from simply having a routine of makeup.
Makeup is a form of self-care. It allows you to have time for yourself at any time of the day and
the effort that is put into it takes skills. Makeup is also a form of art. Not many people can do it.
Therefore I am willing to share my own skills that I've learned throughout the years of
experimenting what works for me. As I kept on watching videos and trying them myself, I've
developed a passion.
 The process of makeup takes time. Whether it be a simple mascara and lipstick to a full
face glam makeup. My plan is to create videos that show step by step on how to do basics of
makeup; for example, how to do a winged eyeliner or how to fill in natural eyebrows. These are
one of the many videos that interested me to this subject and really helped accentuate my
development. For the tutorials I will be filming on tiktok and use it as my platform. I will be
posting my videos only to the people I follow and that follow me back. As for the teacher viewing
my them I will have a blog that will include my videos and product descriptions that I've used. I
will use my phone to film, iMovie to edit and upload to YouTube. My video will consist of me
explaining a step and demonstrating how its done. Overall my end product will be a tutorial
video and a website/blog that will tie everything together. I have decided that I will also be
filming makeup reviews and recommendation with the products that I personally love. Makeup
can be really expensive and not many people can afford them as well as myself as it is not in
my budget. I have found ways to save money using coupons and buying sale items. In my
opinion all makeup works the same it all depends on how you use it.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and

skills you will need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to
access/learn all of the resources necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail
your plans.

I will for sure need a filming device which my phone will come in handy. My laptop is also
a resource that I will need to create my blog and keep updates in my personal website and my
end product website. I have to be able to use the basics of editing that is easier on tiktok. The
website I will be using is Weebly and it is very easy and it takes common sense to use as I
already use it for my own portfolio. YouTube is also a must since I have to upload my videos on
my website and uploading it on YouTube is the only way to do so.
Mentors/Community Connections: What types of mentor(s)/community connections will
you need to help you complete your capstone project? How will your mentor(s) help you?
What is your plan to access the mentorship/community connections necessary for this
project?

I am going to reach out to my old coach from basketball that is also a certified makeup
artist and I will be talking to her about her techniques and skills that she's learned herself. I have
also been watching and researching other makeup artists on social medias such as YouTube,
Instagram and tiktok. I personally know some people who are very talented and have taken
advantage of that and used it as a source of income. Nowadays people can make a living out of
social media.

Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee
that might affect progress with your Capstone Project?

I think diversity within the techniques that I've learned and only used on myself as other
people will have different facial structures, skin color and skin types. So when I make my
tutorials I need to do my own research and find things that are universal, for example how to
apply foundation which is the base of the routine.

Other considerations: List and detail any other related information/ considerations about
your project that you feel should be included in your project proposal.

As for covid I may or may not ask one of my friends to be a part of my journey and use
my skills on other people and see the difference between doing makeup on myself versus
others. If Tiktok does not work out as I planned I will be switching onto iMovie to edit and
youtube to produce my end product.
