The equipment is partially shown in figure 1. Adjust overflow Sealing 400 mm, a 00 fF Fitting device Contact to the jot Figure 1: HM-150.09 Orifice & Jet Velocity apparatus ‘The equipment consists of a clear tank which is used to provide a constant head (pressure) of water. The head can be maintained at a constant value by adjusting the height of the over flow pipe. The orifices are installed at the base of the tank using a special wall fitting. There are four different types of orifices with two of them have an internal diameter of 4mm and two having an internal diameter of ‘8mm. The internal profiles of the orifices are also different. A set of probes are located to the right side of the tank. These probes are used to mark the trajectory of the water jet. PROCEDURE: 1. Select one of the orifices and insert it into the orifice fitting device. Fit this to the bottom of the headertank. 2. Connectthe apparatus to the water supply of the basic hydraulics bench and startthe pump. 3. Adjust the water head to a specified level (say 400 mm) by means of the adjustable overflow pipe. Make sure the level of the water remains stable. If it appears that the level of water is not remaining stable atthe desired height, adjust the main valve on the Hydraulics Bench. 4. Onoe the water levelin the head tankis stable, adjust the probes so that they come in contact wi the jet. Start from the right side probe so that the jet trajectory isnot disturbed. 5. Read the y-positions of the jet and mark them on the graph paper located behind the probes as wellasinthe observation table. 6. Repeatthe experiment with a differentorifice and/or different water level in the head tank. 7. After completion, stop the HM-150 pump and allow the header tank to drain completely.
