#1- KT Asteroid

The layer of clay marked what is known in geology as the KT boundary.

Nearly half of all life forms on Earth perished in the apocalypse, including the
dinosaurs.

At Meteor Crater AZ, 50,000 years ago a meteorite about the size of a house slammed
into the Earth.

Alvarez’s theory has been around for about 25 years.

#2- Dinosaurs

In 1822 a naturalist gave the name Iguanodon to the creature found in a piece of
sandstone.

“Dinosaur” means terrible lizard.

Yellowstone’s 2 million acres sit atop an enormous underground supervolcano over 40


miles wide.

In 1953, Stanley Miller reproduced the conditions on primeval Earth.

#4- Hydrothermal Vents

In 1977 a deep-sea submarine descended over 8,000 feet to investigate hydrothermal


activity.

The temperature around these deep-sea vents was a scorching 760 ºF.

This life system is not living off the energy from the Sun, but is living off the
energy of the earth.
#5- Burgess Shale

In the summer of 1909, Charles Walcott came across a piece of shale that was a
fossil.

The fossils that Walcott discovered were remarkably preserved.


The discovery of the Burgess Shale has revealed an estimated 170 different species
of ancient marine life.

#6- Classification of Species


A botanist, Carl Linneus, came up with a system for classifying every living thing.

Charles Darwin quit medical school to become a naturalist
The HMS Beagle stayed 36 days in the Galapagos Islands.

The finches on the Galapagos had different shaped beaks.

Finally, in 1859, Darwin published his theory of natural selection.

In 1974, Donald Johansson, found an ancient hominid in Ethiopia.

Lucy was an estimated 3.2 million years old.


#9- Laetoli Footprints

In 1978, Mary Leaky, found a pair of fossilized footprints in Tanzania.

#10- Toumai Skull


In Central Africa, in 2002 a research team unearthed 6 skull fragments.

Hominids are bipedal and unable to remain bored.
