Calculate the heat required to produce 1500 m /hr of steam at the exit of a boiler if the input to boiler is
water (liquid) at a temperature of 24 oC and 10 bar pressure and this liquid water is converted to
saturated steam at constant pressure. Steam is discharged through a 15 cm Internal Diameter pipe.
Neglect kinetic energy of water liquid at entry. .
Q NO : 02 : [CLO-I][TL-II][25]
Gas having a composition of 40 weight % of ethane and 60 weight percent butane is to be heated from
150 oC to 450 oC at a pressure of 10 bar. What will the heat required per kilogram of the mixture.
Neglecting kinetic and potential energy changes. Use tabulated enthalpies. .

100 moles of a Gas stream at 65 C and 1 atm with a molar composition of 66.9 % acetone vapor, and
the balance nitrogen is passed through a condenser where Acetone (Ac) is condensed partially out of
this gas stream. Upper stream with a molar flow rate of 36.45 mol/s and composition of 9.2 mol%
Acetone vapor and 90.8mol % N2 at a temperature of 20 oC and 5 atm pressure. Molar flow rate of the
bottom stream is 63.55 mol acetone liquid per second at a temperature of 20 oC and 5 atm pressure.
The process is at steady state. What are equations for heat capacity at constant pressure (Cp) in
(kJ/(mol-oC))for acetone vapors and acetone liquid. Use tabulated values. .

i. Dry bulb temperature.
ii. Dew point temperature
iii. Humid volume
iv. Relative humidity
v. Enthalpy deviation
vi. Enthalpy at saturation
vii. Specific enthalpy.
