Answer the following as a reflection/reaction to Philippine Historiography. Choose five items to
expound and clarify.
1. Concoct your own concept or quote of History. Explain.
History is a process of shaping oneself. Think of yourself as a thing that has all the experiences of life and thinking of yourself as simply that collection of all experiences in life. You are the sum of your parts and that what makes you. History is a kind of process, something that is changing but all are integrated to, in a sense, shape ourselves. 2. Compare and contrast History and Historiography. History is the study of past events such as human activities, people, societies, and civilizations leading up to the present while historiography is the study of historical writing and analysis of history through a belief system or philosophy. Historiography is all about the writings in history. 3. Historiography: Art or Science of writing History. Clarify. Saying historiography is both an art and science emphasizes the subject of historiography as a field of scholarly inquiry, as well as certain aspects of developing history (historical writing). The scope of the science of historiography is reflected in the number of studies, research and theories. History is an art itself and thus historiography is art. 4. Agree/Disagree: History is necessary to develop critical thinking. Discuss. History is indeed necessary to develop critical thinking. Critical thinking is where you ask things and history is an answer and meaning. The criticism can be answered by the events that has already happened, and that is simply history, which gives a clear hindsight. These hindsight are facts which are very small part of history, the greater part of it is made up of judgement of events, situations and characters, which are debatable. 5. Is Historiography important in the proper understanding of past? Explain. Historiography is important in the proper understanding of past because it will help us realize what would be the best decision that we will be taking in the present to ensure that our future will be guaranteed or it will become a brighter future. Essentially, the struggles in the present can be mentally contemporaneous with the struggles in the past.
