2020-2021 Allegheny Valley Honors Musician Event

Preliminary Information – As of November 2, 2020

While we are unfortunately unable to hold our typical in-person AV Honors Bands this year, we are
excited to announce the first ever virtual Allegheny Valley Honors Musician Event opportunity!

Why

At a time when in-person musical honors and enrichment opportunities are not occurring, your directors
felt that it is still important to provide an opportunity for you to enrich your musicianship and receive
recognition for your achievements

What

Allegheny Valley Honors Musician Event

Jr. High – Grades 7-9
Sr. High – Grades 10-12
Video Auditions: Submitted via Google Forms – January 25-29, 2021 at 11:59pm
- Music distributed via school directors – early November
Recognition and Awards announced – February 8, 2021

How

Early November

- Students receive audition material and preliminary information from directors. Students should
prepare their respective selection over the next few months

Mid-January

- Specific and detailed audition instructions sent out to students

Week of January 25-29

- Window to submit video audition recording via Google Forms link. Videos must be submitted by
11:59pm on January 29. Late submissions will not be accepted – no exceptions

Week of February 1-5

- Judges evaluate and score audition recordings

- Top 50% of scores in each section in the Jr. High and Sr. High classification will be honored
o For example – if 40 trumpet players in grades 10-12 submit an audition video, the top 20
audition scores will be recognized as a “Sr. High AV Honors Musician”
o If 34 clarinet players in grades 7-9 submit an audition video, the top 17 audition scores
will be recognized as a “Jr. High AV Honors Musician”

- Jr. High and Sr. High Honors Musicians announced

- Recognition program, pins and certificates distributed at school or mailed to students
