Hi!

Thank you for downloading my Succuholics

101 ebook. My name is Jess and I am addicted
to succulents. But actually, I have grown my
collection exponentially over the past couple
of years and have fallen in love with these
unique plants. I hope that this care book will
give you everything you need in order to
succeed with growing succulents indoors or
outdoors.

I do want to warn you that you may find

succulents to be addicting as well. But in all
seriousness, succulents can be tricky and a lot
of what I have learned was taught by trial and
error. You will most likely lose some succulents
along the way, but that is part of learning. Your
home is unique to you and your conditions are
going to be different from mine. Thankfully I
have lived in several homes over the years
allowing me to give you advice on different
scenarios. I hope you are able to choose one
and learn how much fun gardening can be!

SUCCULENTS
A succulent is a plant that retains water in
the leaves and stem. They are characterized
by thick leaves that are not flexible. They
are a desert plant that is forced to store
water for a long time.

Cacti are succulents however not all

succulents are cacti. Cacti have spines that
protect them from being eaten by animals.

There are many types of succulents. Some

examples include Echeverias and Sedums.
These are probably what you think of when
you imagine a succulent.

SOIL &
CONTAINERS
Succulents are one of the few plants that can
survive without nutritional soil for weeks. This
makes them perfect for making fun
arrangements.
That being said, they will perform and grow
significantly under the proper conditions.
Succulents should be planted in fast-draining
soil. Pumice is also a great option if succulents are
living in humid climates as pumice absorbs
surrounding water and allows for slow water
release which will prevent root rot. A common
planting medium for arrangements/diy projects is
sphagnum moss which is usually sold at your
local nursery.

Succulents can be planted in numerous

containers or onto objects. But no matter what
the object, the succulent should have access to
drainage holes.

WATER
Since succulents are naturally desert plants,
think of watering as trying to mimick the desert.
However, unlike the desert, you can water more
frequently allowing the succulents to grow
quicker than out in nature.
When it rains in the desert, it pours.
Completely soak your succulents soil when you
water.
In between waterings, the desert is really dry
and hot. Allow for your succulents soil to
completely dry out before watering again. Some
succulents will show you when they need water
as their leaves will begin to pucker/wrinkle.

*IT IS BETTER TO UNDERWATER THAN

OVERWATER!!

Overwatering can lead to root rot. This will kill

your plant and most of the time, you won't see it
coming. The stem and roots will turn
purple/black. If this happens, immediately cut the
healthy top off and let it dry completely before
replanting. Get rid of the base of the plant.

LIGHT
If growing succulents indoors, acquiring the
proper light can be challenging. Grow lights can
be a great investment for indoor gardens. If
growing outside, put succulents in indirect
lighted areas. The direct sun can cause the leaves
to burn.
If the succulent is not getting enough light, it
will begin to stretch towards the light it is getting.
Succulents will not ever return to their original
shape if this happens but they will grow properly
once they get enough light. Once it is healthy
again at the top, you can cut it and plant it in soil
again. It will eventually grow new roots.

INSECTS
Mealy bugs are the most common insect that
effect succulents. They are tiny white fuzzy
creatures that are incredibly difficult to see. If you
see stunted growth from a succulent or scaring
on their leaves, mealy bugs are probably to
blame.
Rubbing alcohol is an effective treatment for
getting rid of mealy bugs. Simple pour rubbing
alcohol on the succulent and leaves and allow to
dry. Place succulent in a darker area as they are
now more likely to get sunburnt. A natural
predator is lady bugs and they also will do the
trick to get rid of this pest.

PROPAGATION
My most favorite thing about succulents is
propagation! They can make new plants simply
out of leaves. This process is also extremely
addicting. If you would like to learn more, please
consider purchasing my ebook "Succulent
Propagation Master ". This ebook will go into
great detail about how to propagate from
different succulents including photographic
examples. This book explains different ins and
outs about propagation, how to make it go faster,
and different propagation hacks! If you love
succulents and want to have more for free, this is
the book for you! Book launch coming October
2018!
