Mary Massengill

Chapter 7
HRM

1. Based on the information given, what issues did Congemi and his employee
development group consider that would be part of a needs assessment and
readiness for training?
Congemi and his employee development group considered employee orientation, a
learning management system and an apprenticeship program for line workers all
parts of the assessment and readiness for training. They also identified the most
important skills to keep the workers safe. They also developed English and Spanish
versions of skills used in the field.

2. What training methods are described in this case? Would you recommend
MasTec use other training methods besides these for its line workers? Why
or why not?
The learning management system (LMS), an apprenticeship and a video in
English and Spanish demonstrating the skills the workers need were among the
methods described. They also have materials available online. This helps keep
track of the training. They list apprenticeships but not competency in the skills.
While a trainer may not be on site for all the training due to the online training, I
believe a competency test will make them even more efficient. The
apprenticeship could be only a certain amount of time on the job and that does
not prove competency.
