Frequently Asked Questions

What is the campaign all about?

Our Share the Power of a Wish Campaign is to raise funds to grant wishes to critically ill children
in Maine. It is also an awareness campaign to teach the public more about our mission and our
goal to reach every eligible child.

Besides financial donations, we accept in-kind donations, airline mile donations (they will never
expire for us!), and we depend on volunteers to carry our mission throughout the state. To learn
more about these other ways to help, visit wish.org/maine.

How did it get started?

We are grateful to have the support of WGME13/FOX23 as our media partner for this event.
While we have considered doing a telethon for a number of years, it was through this
partnership that this event came to life. WGME13 has a long-time relationship with Make-A-
Wish Maine and have a monthly Wish Wednesday feature the last Wednesday of each month.

Are you still granting wishes during the pandemic?

Yes! While the on-going pandemic has impacted the types of wishes that can safely be granted
right now, Make-A-Wish Maine continues to deliver their mission to kids at a time when it is
needed more than ever.

Can I donate online? If so, what is the website?

Yes, you can give online by visiting wish.org/maine and clicking on Share the Power of a Wish.
You can also text the word WISH to 44-321 and we will text you the link!

What if I don’t want to give my credit card info over the phone?

The donor has two options:

• Text WISH to 44-321 to receive a link to the giving page to enter their info themselves.
• Mail a check made out to Make-A-Wish Maine to: 66 Mussey Rd, Scarborough, ME
04074
Can I make a one-time donation or does it have to be monthly?
Yes, one-time donations make up the majority of our contributions.

Is there a minimum to how much I can donate?

We accept donations of any size.

Where does the money go?

Our mission is to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. All donations will
help our mission right here in Maine.

Am I able to cancel my monthly donation?

Yes, contact Meredith Plaud at (207) 221-2306 to cancel your monthly donation at any time.

What are the payment methods?

You may pay by credit card over the phone or online or send a check payable to Make-A-Wish
Maine to: 66 Mussey Rd, Scarborough, Maine 04074

Can I use Paypal or an eCheck or does it have to be a credit card?

At this time, we can only accept credit card donations.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes. Make-A-Wish Maine is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. As such, financial contributions
may be deductible for federal income tax purposes. We will email a receipt for all donations
made.

Are there incentives included with donation levels? If so, how and when will I receive my
gift?
We do not offer incentives for your gift, which makes the donation 100% tax deductible.

• If you would like to purchase Make-A-Wish products, visit wish.org/maine and click on
“Ways to Help”. There, you will find products and promotions including the “Make-A-
Wish Store” which allows you to purchase items with a portion of the proceeds going to
Make-A-Wish. You cannot purchase these items over the phone or at our office, this is
strictly done through the website.
I am interested in donating airline miles.
Donated miles will never expire for us, so a gift of airline miles will help us grant travel wishes
the moment it is safe for our wish kids to travel. In the emailed receipt, they will find a link to
donate miles. If they want to speak to someone about donating miles, have them reach out to
Meredith Plaud at (207) 221-2306.

Can I donate other in-kind?

Contact Meredith Plaud at (207) 221-2306 to discuss what you would like to donate.

Is there a way to get involved through volunteering?

Contact Lani Geistwalker at (207) 221-2306 to talk about volunteer opportunities.
