BURSARY FUND APPLICATION 2020/2021


FOR ALL ELIGIBLE STUDENTS

16-19 Bursary Funds are funds provided by the Education and skills Funding Agency (EFSA) and the
Student Bursary Support Service (SBSS) to support, financially, young people in learning, who have
reached the statutory school leaving age and are under 19 on 31st August in the year they
commence a programme. There are TWO elements to the 16-19 Bursary Fund. These are:

• Vulnerable Student Bursary up to £1200 per academic year, which is awarded to young
people in nominated vulnerable groups.

• Discretionary Bursary for any eligible young person in learning facing financial difficulty to
help with costs of transport, equipment, and other course related costs. The award of a
bursary, the amount awarded and when it is paid, is at the discretion of the school. The
school receives approximately £1000 which it shares amongst all claimants.

SECTION 2: EVIDENCE OF ELIGIBILITY


Student’s attending Riverwalk School fit within the Vulnerable Student criteria for the bursary; the
requirements for eligibility are listed below. A vulnerable student is defined as a young person
(those aged at least 16 but under 19 on the day their course starts) whose place is publicly funded;
The eligible groups are students who are:

• in care
• care leavers
• in receipt of Income Support (IS) or Universal Credit (UC) in their own right
• getting Universal Credit (UC) or Employment Support Allowance (ESA) AND Disability
Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payments in their own right

Please send a copy of benefits received as proof of eligibility. These must be provided before
any application for Bursary can be processed.
