If an organism has a chromosome number of 38, the number of chromosomes contained in its

sex cells is 19. This is explained by the fact that in every organism, their own sex cells contain a
single set of chromosomes and are collectively known as haploid. In this particular organism, 19
chromosomes are contained in its gametes because of the process of meiosis. In this process,
the chromosome number is reduced so that the sex cells only contain a half set of chromosomes,
one homolog of each pair. Moreover, having 19 chromosomes in its sex cells is because of the
combining with another gamete resulting in the formation of zygotes that are diploid cells.
