• What is the main cause of conductive deafness
o Prolonged exposure to High Frequency sounds, such as turbine-engine noise.
o An infectious disease of the inner ear that affects for example balance and
hearing.
o A combination of lifestyle (ex : Smoking) and environmental factors (ex : stress).
o A blockage of the outer or middle ear (ex : wax) or fluid in the middle ear.
• How many bouts of REM sleep typically occur in an 8hour sleep period ?
o 4 or 5
o 6 or 7
o 2 or 3
o 8 or 9
• On a snowy day in 1982, Air ontario aircraft crashed into Potomac river shortly
after take-off from Washington airport after it departed with ice on the wings.
The cabin crew knew about icing due to passengers commenting on it but were
resistant to tell the pilots. What kind of error is this ?
o Social environment
o Ergonomic
o Economic
o Knowledge Based
Julien K - HPL - 2
• After SNORKELING into the ocean with a depth of more than 10m, how long
should you wait for the next flight ?
o 12 hours
o 24 hours
o No waiting time
o 48 hours
• Whilst taxiing towards the runway, the pilot starts his power checks
approaching intersection E3. ATC then clear the aicraft for take-off. The pilot
replies saying he cannot take-off as he isn’t prepared for departure as of yet.
What kind of behaviour is this ?
o Anti-authoritative
o Over-confidence
o Self discipline
o Unprofessional

• When is required to use 100% oxygen under pressure?
o 20000 ft
o 35000 ft
o 40000 ft
o 50000 ft

• [SELECT 3] A pilot doesn’t have any Instrument Rating, he doesn´t divert when in
IMC and eventually ends up contacting ATC for help.
o Option 1 (correct)
o Option 2 (correct)
o Option 3 (correct)
o When flying in IMC, there is plenty of time to make a decision
• CRM is mostly concerned with the cognitive and interpersonnal skills needed to
manage the flight within an organisated aviation system. In this context, cognitive
skills are defined as the mental processes used for :
o Gaining and maintaining situational awareness for solving problems and
decision making.
o Acquiring technical knowledge and skills required to fly and operate an
aircraft.
o Establishing the required technical skills to complete the mission successfully.
o Defining a proper interpersonal framework to establish effective
communication among the crew members.

• Which are some of the most critical types of perceptuals illusions ?
o Geometric illusion (depth perception), somatosensory illusion (autokinesis),
vestibular illusion (feeling dizzy).
o Visual illusion (blind spot), kinaesthetic (the leans), auditory illusion (missed
radio call).
o Haptic illusion (colour blind), Vestibular illusion (graveyard spiral), sensory
illusion (spatial disorientation).
o Coriollis illusion (constant turning), neurological illusion (after-images),
auditory illusion (hearing voices).
• [SELECT] A multiple choice question (gave 7 possible answers but didnt specify how
many had to be right, just select the correct ones) about description of two way
communication.
• An instructor that practices emergencies a lot is probably going to act better when
in a real emergency than a pilot that doesn´t practice it enough, relating skills:
o long term memory is virtually unlimited but if information is not retrieves skills will
be lost and practice and training is required
o Resignation description
o Invulnerability (pilots believe nothing will happen to them)
o Obedience description
Julien K - HPL - 5
• What influences the behaviour of a pilot?
o Social and peer pressures
o Peer pressure and character
o Past experience and education
o Personality and attitude
• High altitude flight operation expose flight crew to increased level of cosmic
radiation. The order of there relative imoportance :
o Altitude, latitude, normal solar activity and random solar activity (solar
flares).
o Altitude, latitude, solar activity (solar flares), height of the ionosphere.
o Altitude, airspeed, earth magnetic field, solar activity (solar flares).

• You are extremly bad weather . You are Pilot flying and have one passenger being
impatient because « we should have land one hour ago ». You proceed aboard
your Single engine aircraft and do a shallow circuit, you loose your aispeed and get
into a dive killing the passenger and yourself, what type of behaviour the pilot was
experiencing ?
o anxiety
o infallibility
o impulsively
• A commander believes that the co-pilot has made a radio-call, but it will not be
made for another five minutes, due to poor prioritisation. The commander does
not ask for the Co-pilot to confirm that he made the radio call Which option best
describes the commander’s situation?
o An action slip
o A false mental model
o Confirmation bias
o Stress

• What is safety?
o Reducing risk to lowest acceptable means commercially viable
Julien K - HPL - 7
• Flight in VMC. Enroute to destination airfield in mountainous terrain an
instrument fails. You decide to continue anyway. As pilot get closer, weather
worsens to IMC conditions. Pilot decides to continue and crashes into
mountain. What type of error is this?
o Lapse Error
o Design error
o Error chain
o One off error
• TUC at 43,000ft
o 5-15 seconds
o 20 minutes
o 30-60 seconds
o 45-90 seconds
Julien K - HPL - 8
• Approaching field with thunder, lightning, bad vis and mountains. Captain
cannot see approach lights when nearing minimums, he asks FO if he can see
them. FO points out cross-wind limit is VERY close. Capt says it's not outside of
limits yet. FO thinks he can see lights but isn't sure. Capt says if he can see the
lights then "they can make it". FO "FINALLY" says he can see the lights. What
type of behaviour is this?
o Good teamwork
o NOT group-think
o Group risky-shift, where the decision taken is the not decision if each crew member were by
themselves
Julien K - HPL - 9
• Define the difference between absolute and relative humidity
o Absolute humidity is the percentage of moisture the air could hold at a
given temperature, whereas relative is the amount of water vapour
relative to standard atmosphere.
o It’s only terminology since these 2 concepts are synonymous. Therefore,
absolute humidity (or relative) is the amount of water vapour that is
present in the air at any given time.
o Absolute humidity is the amount of water vapour per unit volume of air,
whereas relative humidity is the actual amount of moisture per unit
volume of air relative to standard atmosphere
o Absolute humidity is the amount of water vapour in the air, whereas
relative humidity is the actual amount of moisture compared to the
maximum possible amount of moisture at a given temperature
• During a night flight at 10,000 feet you notice that your visual acuity has decreased. In
this case you can increase your acuity by:
o Scanning sectors of the field of vision
o Closing one eye
o Breathing supplementary oxygen
o Dim the instrument lights
Julien K - HPL - 10
• Resonance of the body parts can result from
o Vibrations from 16Hz to 18Hz
o Vibrations from 1Hz to 100Hz
o Angular velocity
o Acceleration along the longitudinal body axis
• Which substances causes rapid corrosion of the aircraft metal strcuture and gives off
highly toxic fumes ?
o Potassium
o Foam of fire extinguisher
o Carbon monoxide
o Mercury
