Station in Chatuchak, Bangkok, is the biggest railway project in ASEAN that will connect countries from China to Laos in the future. It will replace the current Bangkok Railway Station at Hua Lamphong as the terminus for all long-distance rail services from Bangkok. The station is under construction and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2020. As of May 2018 the station is 57,77 percent completed. When built it will replace the existing Bang Sue Junction Railway Station and incorporate the Bang Sue MRT Station. The Red Line service from Bang Sue to Rangsit is expected to be operational in November 2019. In September 2018, State Railway of Thailand delayed opening of the Red Line to January 2021. The project itself is said to cost more than 150 million Baht The Red Line will connect the Bangkok region with north, east, south and west suburban areas. It is expected to serve 131,000 commuters a day when it starts services in 2019, 262,000 passengers a day by 2029, and 336,000 people a day by 2034. The alignment of the Bang Sue-Rangsit section begins at Pradiphat T- junction, which is 1.8km south of Bang Sue station. The route runs along the northern railway, passing Chatuchak, Bang Khen, Lak Si and Don Muang to reach Rangsit Station in Prathum Thani Province. In the future, the route will be extended to Thammasat University Rangsit Campus. Of the total 26.4km, 19.2km route will be elevated from Bang Sue area to Don Muang, while the 7.1km-long section from Don Muang Station to Rangsit will be at-grade and lined with fences. The latter will be connected to the existing northern railway and feature gauge-railway track. For The inner construction of the Bang Sue Grand Station, The subterranean floor of the station will be set aside as parking space that can accommodate 1,700 vehicles. The ground floor will be used for ticket sales and reservations, contain a lounge for passengers as well as have commercial areas. The first floor will consist of four platforms for Red Line trains as well as another eight platforms for long-distance train services. The second floor will accommodate 10 platforms for regional services while another two platforms could also be used to serve high-speed trains and airport rail link services in the future. The project is divided into seven zones, covering a total of 2,325 rais in and around Bang Sue district. Zone A is planned for the development of a 32-rai smart business complex, which will open for private bidding this year. Zone B will be the Asean Commercial Business Hub with retail and office space. Zone C will house the MICE Super Arena, a exhibition hall and a sport complex. Zone D covers the 83-rai Chatuchak Park and Chatuchak Weekend Market. With this development, Bang Sue Grand Station will not only be a station, but also this area will become the new Central Business District and modern residential of Bangkok. The expected completion of Bang Sue Grand Station and railways systems will affect the demand as consumers migrate to the Bang Sue area.The land surrounding the station has been divided into zones which will attract new business and opportunities due to the great potential of future growth.
