I.

State the null and alternative hypothesis

 Null Hypothesis – The matched pairs have differences that come from a population with
median equal to zero (H0: µ1 = µ2)
 Alternative Hypothesis – The matched pairs have differences that come from a population
with a nonzero median (H1: µ1 ≠ µ2)
II. Set the Level of Significance or Alpha level (α)
α = 0.05
III. Determine the Test Distribution to use
 Dependent Variable – Number of viewers
 Independent Variable – TV shows

Since we are comparing the median of one independent variable that consist two categorical
groups which is not normally distributed, we will use a nonparametric test called Wilcoxon
Signed-ranked test

IV. Calculate the p-value

Null hypothesis H₀: η =
0
Alternative H₁: η ≠
hypothesis 0

V. Make Statistical Decision

Descriptive Statistics Test

Null hypothesis H₀: η =
Sample N Median
0
Differenc 9 -2.3
Alternative H₁: η ≠
e
hypothesis 0
Wilcoxon
Sample N for Test Statistic P-Value
Differenc 9 5.50 0.051
Accepts the null hypothesis because the p- e
value is greater than the significance level or alpha level therefore, the matched pairs have
differences of population with median equal to zero.
VI. Draw Conclusion
There is enough evidence to support that the matched pairs have differences of a
population with median equal to zero.
