METHODOLOGY

This portion presents the methods and procedures that will use in the study.
Research Design
The study will utilize the instructional materials development research design
which consists of the following:
1. Examine the Learning Competencies as Curriculum Guide in
Kindergarten to Grade 3 particularly in Values Development. The initial
step of the study is to examine the learning competencies as curriculum guide
in kindergarten to grade 3 particularly in values development to determine
what to include in the story books as basis of preparing the instructional
materials.
2. Search for related studies. The related studies are important in this study to
gather and collect information.
3. Search and review the guidelines in constructing story book for K to 3
learners. The story books were developed by the following guidelines:
a. Use a memory from childhood as inspiration. One possible inspiration
could be a memorable experience or event in childhood.
b. Take a common thing and make it fantastical. Pick an everyday activity or
event.
c. Create a unique main character. Sometimes a children’s story hinges on a
main character that is relatable and unique. Think about character types that
do not get represented often in children’s stories. Make your character
particular by using real life qualities in children and adults that find
interesting.
d. Pick a theme or idea for the story book. Having a central theme for the
story can help generate ideas.
e. Identify the age group that are writing for. Children’s stories are often
written with specific age group in mind. The language, tone, and style of
the story will change based on which age group are writing for.
f. Read the examples of children’s stories. Get a better sense of the genre by
reading examples of children’s stories that have been successful.
g. Create a strong opening. Start with a sentence that will hook the reader
right away.
h. Give the story an arc. Make sure the story has a beginning, middle, and end.
Having an arc will ensure the reader stays engaged in the story.
i. Make the moral of the story uplifting, but not preachy. Most children’s
stories will have a happy, uplifting ending with a moral.
4. Design a story book according to the guidelines. Used the following
guidelines in designing the story books for the success.
5. Construct an Evaluation Sheet. This evaluation sheet is important part in this
study to see the effectiveness and usability of the story book.
6. Ask experts to evaluate the story book using the attached evaluation sheet.
This story book will evaluate by the 5 experts using the attached evaluation
sheet to see if the story book needs revision and improvement.
7. Collect the proposed improvement plan as a basis for revision.
8. Revise the story book based on the suggestion of expert’s evaluators. The
materials were improved and edited based on the suggestions and
recommendations given by the five experts to come up with the final copy of
the materials.

Locale of the Study


The study will conduct at Tarlac Agricultural University, Malacampa, Camiling,
Tarlac.

Evaluators of Story Book


The evaluation of the developed story books will be done by the five experts in
story book development.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher obtain permission to conduct the study from the Schools Division
Superintendent and District Supervisor.
The developed story books were presented to the five experts for evaluation using
LRMDS instrument.
Data Gathering Instrument
There is only one instrument that will use in gathering data. The LRMDS for the
description and evaluation of Story books for Kindergarten to Grade 3 pupils.
Data analysis
For Objective 1. Weighted mean was used to describe the developed story book in
terms of context, language, graphics, layout, values integration.
For Objective 2. Weighted mean was also used to evaluate the developed story
books by the teachers and experts in terms of usability, effectiveness.

Instructions: Examine the material carefully and for each evaluation criterion consider the
extent to which the resource meets the criteria. Check the appropriate number with 3-
being the Very Satisfactory (VS); 2- Satisfactory (S); 1- Poor. For rating below 3, write
your comments/justifications on each evaluation criterion.
