ABILITIES AND POTENTIAL
Looking back at the examples above,
Chia, Carlos, Billie and Kiara may say
that they realized their own abilities
and potential. They know what to do
and is passionate in what they do. How
about the majority of people who still
has not discovered their abilities and
potential? How about you?
Adolescence is a time to leave
childhood ways behind and face the
life of being an adult. This is the perfect
time to discover one’s self and one’s
abilities. This is the stage to arrive at an
identity. To know yourself, assets,
abilities and your limitations and your
role in the society. An enriched
environment with various opportunities
to experience a wide selection of
activities that promotes the conditions
of optimal development is ideal (Cronin
and Mandich, 2015).
It is important to explore where you are
good at. No matter how small or
significant your abilities are that is all
right. Focusing on our strength and
improving our weaknesses can lead us
to our true potential. It may not be
immediate because it takes time and
effort, but in due time it will
materialize.

activities, sports, music academics
can provide you with various life
defining experiences for personal
development.
Does it mean we have to be very good
at what we do?
Yes, finding your passion and being good at
what you do is the starting point. Each one
of us has our own unique abilities, talents
and personalities and discovering what
works for you is a big help.
Do not compare yourself with others
though.
Some people has something that we
lack and we have something that they
want.  
What if I am not comparing myself
with others but my parents keep on
comparing me with my siblings or other
relatives or themselves?
A typical Filipino parent wants the best for
their children. If you happen to be the target
of comparison, think of it as a challenge to
be good or even better. This parent may be
indirectly telling you to explore your
opportunity and believe in yourself and try.
“Kung kaya niya kaya mo rin”. This does not
mean that you have to do what the person
does. If you are compared with a successful
person, try to discover your own passion that
would also make you successful.
