Miguel comes home with paint for the kitchen, and Mercedes has made lunch.

Miguel tells
Mercedes about meeting Carmen that morning, but Mercedes decides not to tell Miguel about
her earlier conversation… They make plans for painting the kitchen.

I’m home!

Hi dear, you’re just in time – I’ve cooked lunch for us, it’s on the table in the kitchen.

Oh sounds lovely, I’m so hungry. What have you cooked?

I cooked your favourite, bacon and eggs. I bought some eggs from the supermarket this
morning, but I dropped them. These eggs are from a farm down the road.

Mmmm it smells great! I love that Villanueva has so much local produce.

Ha Ha Ha.

Why are you laughing?

Oh, it’s nothing. I met this woman this morning who….. never mind, it’s nothing. Lola loves it in
Villanueva, by the way. The weather is perfect and the air feels so clean.

I’m so glad to hear you say that. I was worried that you wouldn’t like it here, because it’s so
different from where you grew up.

Oh, it’s definitely different. The people seem so… err… keen to offer advice.

They do! I met Carmen earlier, she runs the hotel in the market place. Sometimes people in
small towns can be unfriendly to new people, but she was very helpful – I think we’ll make a lot
of new friends here.

Hmm… I hope you’re right about that... Did you find the paint for the kitchen?

I did. I think I have the right colour… I bought this one, it’s green. Is it the one you wanted?

Um.. I think so. I definitely didn’t ask you to buy “green” paint though, haha.

Haha You’re right. You asked me for a weird one... “Winter sage”, or something like that? To me,
“winter sage” simply seems like green!

You don’t understand… but it does look like a good colour. I hope you’re ready to paint this
afternoon. Do you have the paint brushes?

Yeah.

And something to cover the furniture?

Yeah.

And some good music to listen to while we paint?

Definitely: “A Hundred 80’s Classics”.

Haha, I think we have very different ideas of what “good” music is. But I do love cheesy pop as
much as anyone.

Right then, let’s eat, turn up Radio Futura, and get painting!

Sounds good!
